Ja Rule: ‘The Interview That Everyone Wants!’

NY is finally cooling down but the world of MTV is still as hot as ever.

Last week I headed down to the Universal headquarters to catch up with an artist who’s been busy preparing his comeback. A comeback that has been 3 years in the making. After a highly publicised feud with 50 Cent that saw 50 victorious, Ja Rule disappeared almost completely and the future of Murder Inc held in the balance…until now.

With his latest album titled The Mirror finally complete, I sat down with Ja Rule to conduct his first in-depth interview in 3 years, or as Ja Rule described it — “the interview that everyone wants!”

While we were still setting up the shot, Rule arrived earlier than expected with one security guard, his manager, a label rep, a publicist and a handful of assistants. At just 5 foot 6 inches tall, Ja is definitely on the short side — but since the last time I saw him when he came on “TRL” back home in the UK, Rule has been hitting the gym. Dressed casual, Ja was in good spirits talking about the upcoming Mayweather/Hatton fight, placing his bet firmly on 50’s close friend Floyd Mayweather with the words “Mayweather’s going to dance circles round him — he’s too quick for Hatton.”

But that’s not the only heavyweight battle he’s predicting. In what turned out to be almost a 2 hour conversation Ja got deep about his music, his life, his career, his comeback, the new album, his personal confrontations with DMX, Eminem, Busta, Ashanti and 50 Cent.

Here’s a taste of our chat.

  1. I am so happy that Ja Rule is back; however, I'm not too sure that he is doing enough promotion for the album to be as successful as it should. But I love his new single "Body".
  2. JA IS ONE OF THE BEST RAPPERS SINCE PAC AND BIGGIE DIED. THE RAP GAME IS A BUNCH OF B.S. EVERYBODY LISTENS TO THE GARBAGE SINGLES ON THE RADIO. JA SHOULD GO DOUBLE PLATINUM WITH THE MIRROR. HE GOT TALENT AND ENERGY. HE GOT HATED ON FOR TOO LONG. NOW PEOPLE ARE SEEING THAT SNITCHY CENTS IS NOTHING MORE THAN A WAY OVER-RATED RAPPER WHO USES BEEF TO PROMOTE HIS WAY OF LIFE.
  3. ja is still one of the best rappers out, along with lil wayne and t.i., 50 cent isnt just a snitch but a hater too, always jockin everything ja rule does, i think he might be a lil gay too.. and why is mtv always postin these news about 50 cent and what he thinks of the t.i. situation and his videos, who cares! no one does, jus look at his album sales.
  4. ja rule is garbage he see's fifty evertime he looks in the mirror. ja rule never was a thug so why he act like one. his first to singles off this album are getting no radio play. fifty runs a label and is still very sucessful he stays going plat. Look at curtis it's over 2million world wide already and thats bad for 50 but it's way more that ja ever gonna do again he won't ever go gold on this ablum just wait
  5. Bla bla bla bla bla ja who ja what ja row ur boat down a lane and we ll meet u there
  6. I really used to be a big fan of Ja music until he let 50 get in his head. I really hope that this albums has some good music on it and he has not focused any of his lyrics towards fifty. I think that was his down fall. Fifty was talking sh*t about Ja but he was still making music that people wanted to hear. I wish Ja, nothing but Planitum many times over with his new album.

  7. I believe ja's music depicts a colorful picture of the actual state of hiphop. We should really encourage someone that is trying his best to adress the many issues we have as a black community in America. However, he should ignore fif and all his garbage..Fif is promoting things this community does not need. Deaths, incarcerations, women depravation and a gandsta life promotion are not things we need to hear in this 21st century. So if people feel ok to buy that form of musical expression , that is fine..It is up to them..Ja is one of few mcs out there to realize what good music is.. So let's encourage him...He came back from so far , far away...
  8. Ja FOOL dident 50 teach you a lesson the first time why u back its like your back to die early..
  9. Ja still hasn't learned his lesson? I know he is going to flop and I can't wait til Fitty and G-Unit bump into this lil cockroach in awards shows!
  10. i wish ja all the best. i know hes got a lot to say on the mirror and it should be very interesting since hes had 3 years to make this. only blind people let another artist affect the way you listen to someone, good music is good music. Rule still got that fire.
