Lil Wayne Week at mtvnews.com

“Weezy bad, better yet I’m good / Feels like a T-Rex is under my hood”

Finally. Finally. Final-damn-leee. I made it to New Orleans to catch the tail end of NBA All-Star. I usually try to go to NBA every year because as we all know, sports are hip-hop are forever married. This year, though, was really a pain because were supposed to be doing this huge Lil Wayne interview right at the top of All-Star weekend. Then our interview kept getting pushed back, then pushed up. Yes, these are some of the inner workings AKA headaches of the job sometimes. Finally we made a schedule that everybody agreed on. Hit New Orleans on Sunday go to the Hot Boys reunion concert with Wayne, chill Monday and do the Wayne sit down on Tuesday.

More on my time with Lil Wayne after the jump.

Sunday afternoon, I’m walking down Bourbon street and who do I see smoking a stogie in the backseat of a SUV? The Terminator. All he needed was Kanye’s “Good Life’ playing because Arnold Schwarzenegger looked as if he was oblivious to any care in the world. The cavalcade was about six SUVs deep and in the vehicle right behind Arnie’s, one of his security personnel was ghost ridin’ the whip!!!! But he was ghost ridin’ in an official capacity. Hanging outside the truck, scanning the perimeter, making sure nobody wants to blast at Cali’s Governor like they did in “The Running Man.” It was all good though. Fans cheered him.

Canal street was popping as well. You could see Dikembe Mutumbo and his family coming out of Foot Locker with loads of shopping bags and Rick Ross across the street posted up in a all black SUV hollering at the ladies and fellas who approached him. Rawwwwse!

Fast forward to Weezyana Tuesday. We started off going to Wayne’s old high school, McMaine. But the real heart of the day happened on Wayne’s tour bus. He showed love and really opened up about everything that’s going on right now. On the surface, The Fireman has everything in his favor. Linked to some of the most beautiful women — like Lauren London — money, and let’s face it, he’s still the hottest rapper on the planet. During our conversation, I got to see a side of Wayne we don’t always see. He was totally candid. He’s been getting into some brushes with the law, and family, friends and even people he doesn’t know have admonished him for being reckless. It’s a hard pill for him to swallow because he feels he’s done nothing wrong and, professionally, he’s been flawless the past couple of years.

Wayne expressed himself so much, we dedicated this whole week to him on MTV News (”Weezy Week”). You should check it.
