   What's the point of being cynical? I'm with Duke Ellington - "there are only two kinds of music, good and bad." What's more, telling them apart is down to nothing but personal taste. Good luck to Cornell and Timbaland for daring to get out of the boxes the music biz forces artists into. Art's about taking risks.

   I'm not that familiar with Timbaland's work but have certainly heard of him and he seems to be respected in the music world. I also respect Chris's taste and judgement so I imagine whatever the result is, it will be exciting. Bring it on!

   i think it is only natural to be excited about two innovative, creative and compelling people coming together in an attempt to push the boundaries of music and genre. In a sea of 'conveyor belt' bands/acts that conform to every notion of what is expected of said genre i feel Chris and Timbalands' collab with be a much needed boost in the music scene, one in which people hopefully begin to become more able to accept and embrace change

   Well, I know next to nothing of Timbaland but having followed Cornells career for years I'm CERTAIN that whatever this duo brings us will be different, fresh and exciting....yes people, I'm hedging a bet but I simply cannot even imagine that Cornell would put himself out there like this and then have it suck!    I don't know why MTV News feels the need to be so cynical. Anyway, I think it's an exciting prospect. I don't know much about Timberland, but I do know about Cornell. So if he thinks this is the best work of his career, then I am definitely interested in hearing it.
   
   It's such a shame that the music industry has such a strong desire to pigeonhole musicians into neat little categories. I say, thank goodness for those artists like Timberland and Chris Cornell who are willing to push the boundaries!

   Chris' music is important to him. He has always been eager to have his music heard. Saying that, I really doubt that CC would allow ANY producer to change his works into something not acceptable by him.
   
   I trust Chris' instinct and judgment on this unusual teaming and eagerly look forward to the new album. I'm sure the music will have a different edge to it.
   
   One thing about Cornell music ... you'll never be bored by repetition and the same old sound! That's what I find so intriguing about his music.

    No big surprise that Chris Cornell needs a corporate hit maker to help him out. Anyone who's listenned to his last release "Carry On" knows it's a uininspired lyrically dead album. The combo is so out of left field they can call it experimental.

    I - don't - think - Chris needs anyone "helping him out". And, I've listened to "Carry On" - a plethora of times. "Uninspired lyrically dead" is not a term I would use for the album. Have you really listened to "Ghosts", "Killing Birds", "Disappearing Act"?

    Surely "following the rules" would be teaming up with some of the usual suspects from the grunge era or going back to working with a straight "rock" producer? This looks more like a piece of inspired creative synergy which doesn't follow any rules I've ever heard of. But no doubt we can all judge the results for ourselves when we hear them!

    Actually, I find this more predictable in following the rules game. If Timbaland is considered the go-person genius producer then isn't he the predictable choice? I don't believe in synergy when it comes to the all mighty dollar, I'm sure Timbaland had a price too.

    I won't pass judgement until I hear the new music. I'm a huge fan of Chris Cornell (over 15 years) and I've been familiar with Timbaland (as a producer) for many years. He produced a lot of R & B singer Aaliyah's music before her tragic passing. I was a fan of her music.
    I'm excited to hear what the new collaboration will sound like.
    What is wrong with stepping out of the box and trying something new and innovative. I'm so tired of listening to the same old mediocre music that is constantly being played on the radio today.
    Kudos to Chris!!! Listen to your heart and do what inspires you musically!!!
    
    I don't get the negative campaign by MTV. What's the deal here. Maybe they'd like to get everyone's opinions but geesh... do they have to be so cynical.
    No wonder I don't watch MTV anymore.

    Chris took so much heat for doing a Michael Jackson cover on his last LP/cd release ("Billie Jean" from 'Carry On'), especially BEFORE its release, and we all know how that eventually turned out: There are quite a few music critics today wishing they could take back their harsh comments, I'm sure. Negativity BEFORE the fact is kind of like a repetition in foolishness (on the critics' part)...Chris Cornell more than proved his mettle on 'Carry On', and I am excited to see him unafraid to stretch the boundaries of convention yet again!!!

    This newest announcement is exactly what I would expect from Chris. He has always been ahead of the curve and never one to settle. He has taken many different and varied paths along his 20+ year career. I personally love how he mixes it up musically. Foundationally, it is his voice and lyrics that matter and those are still there big and strong. I can't wait to hear what music a Timbaland/Cornell team can make!

    I can't wait to hear it. I'm not into other stuff Tim has been involved with but I can't deny his talent. It's on UK radio all the time and gets into your head. If he can do that for Chris while Chris demonstrates his extraordinary voice and song writing genius then I will be one happy fan. And I'll make sure all the new attention he gets makes people look back over Chris career too. Some people STILL don't know who he is!!!

    Such exciting news, from a fans perspective it's like moths to a flame, the anticipation is emmense. I have NO DOUBT that Chris's colaboration with Timberland is brilliance in the making. Chris Cornell is such a unique talent that continues to push the boundries. He is a very clever man, such a unique talented artist who doesn't get the publicity he truly has earnt and deserves. Timberland a truly talented man.
    After listening to an interview with Chirs describing his feelings of excitement about the release of his upcoming album.
    My gut feeling on this "WATCH OUT WORLD - CORNELL EUPHORIA is coming your way. I feel some grammies coming on no doubt about it.

    Definitely interesting! As a longtime fan of Cornell's, I'm interested in ANY collaboration he chooses to pursue. He is one of the most interesting artists in terms of his career path, and it is the not-so-predictable turns he takes that often bring about the most amazing results. I can't wait to hear the album!

    Timbaland "absolute genius", "true innovator"? Come on MTV -- I think the same things can be said about Chris Cornell. I find it extremely funny that y'all were being so unfairly critical to Chris when he covered "Billie Jean", but now that some idiot on American Idol has tried to pass it off as his own, everyone is suddenly throwing props in Cornell's direction. But...I'm just being cynical I guess. Can't wait for the new album.

    A great singer/songwriter and a great producer teaming up... what's ridiculous about that? What's with all the cynicism and negativity about a project that hasn't even been heard yet? Don't mean to sound cynical? Then keep an open mind! Maybe I've just outgrown the MTV generation. You acknowledge Timbaland's genius and innovation but how can anyone (especially in the industry!) overlook Cornell's contributions and achievements? MTV is geared towards a younger audience that just doesn't seem recognize or even be aware of it.

Timbaland is renowned for having the "Midas touch," and Chris has is one of the greatest vocalist of our time.     If Cornell wanted to sell-out, he would have stayed with Audioslave and toured on the last album to support it. There was enough 'radio' material there.
    
    As for 'Carry On', it was not all 'Uninspired lyrically dead'. The problem was...PRODUCTION. The rock songs sounded flat. It needed musical life. That is obviously what Cornell is looking for.
    
    Now...MTV...they are just taking a different angle to generate interest in MTV. Buck the system you dig?

    Well, this is an interesting one! I can't wait to hear it. I'm a massive fan of everything Chris does. Can't say I really know much Timbaland stuff except his recent hit and snippits I've heard in adverts. I'm sure both artists know what they are doing and, although a complete surprise collaboration, I trust Chris in his music taste and judgements. Chris has been around a long time now and we can't expect him to keep churning out the same stuff, he has to keep growing as an artist and this new direction might be amazing. He can sing anything with his voice!

    As a big Soundgarden/Cornell fan I'm looking forward to it. The only real issue is that it might split the fans.
    Duran Duran re-recorded their last album Red Carpet Massacre which previously was a guitar-orientated album and Epic wasn't happy so Timbaland and his protege Nate "Danjahandz" Hills were brought on on the company's orders. Their guitarist Andy Taylor wasn't at all happy and split. Although the album was pretty damn good, very different to DD and yet still DD, it has split their fans and the album has sunk without a trace.
    
    I'd hate to see it happen with Chris, especially with what Timbaland charges fee-wise!
    
    Good luck to him for having the balls for trying something different.

    I'm surprised MTV is still covering music. But, in reading the cynical post, I see that MTV really isn't covering music, just being snarky about the new (and yet unheard) project from one of the most talented singers AND songwriters of the past twenty years. Really now, when is Chris Cornell going to get his props from being one of the most intriguing, innovative, excellent musicians rock and roll has ever produced? Sheez.
