Long Live JC!

VIVA CASTRO!!

That’s pretty much all I have to say about Brother Jason’s cover of Bruddah Iz’s version of Sister Judy’s classic “Over the Rainbow.” (Check out Chris Harris’s article on the story behind the song.) Just know that as long as JC keeps delivering the goods like he did last night he is gonna be hard to beat, and the ranks of pro-Castro demonstrators will continue to swell.

Hopefully they won’t have Jason wade too heavily into the cheese tonight, as we all know “Idol Gives Back” has a tendency to approach the line between tastefully touching and treacly…and then cross it. JC doesn’t seem to have much patience for the maudlin, unlike certain other “Idol’”hopefuls.

And one other JC defense: a couple weeks back, Simon suggested that the dreadlocked one didn’t seem to really “care” about the competition. I don’t get that. What I get is that he wants to win, but knows that at the end of the day only one person will. He’s gonna do what he feels, be true to himself, and let the chips fall.

El “Nuevo Comandante” — Jason Castro. If he wins this thing, for bringing such honor to the Castro name, his namesakes Fidel and Raul should invite him to visit Havana — one of those “cultural exchange” deals to bypass the long arm of the travel embargo-ing feds. GO, JC!

  1. Thanks, again, John for supporting Jason Castro.
Your posts are always witty and fun to read.

I'm not sure 'bout the Fidel and Raul thing though. It could work, but just Raul please. Raul seems kinda, what's the term, more contemporary? in touch with reality? UHm... not sure I'm getting my idea across so I might as well shut up before I get into trouble. Tehehe.

    Take care, John.

Lots of love from the DreadHeads and Castronauts.
  2. John,

Thanks again for supporting Jason. I'm a Dreadhead and a Castronaut, too. Plus, I'm Colombian like JC so I'm basking in cultural pride as well. He did great this week!

Running over to Cafepress to get that t-shirt right now...
  3. Oh, thank you so much, Bro John, for another great post about Jason! Did you get you ticket on Dreadhead bus yet? :) And yes, he's our Comandante!
  4. My parents laughed at me and gave me a lot of flack when I announced Jason as my idol pick in the semi-finals. They continued to laugh as I voted for him week after week... but it was them who insisted on replaying Jason's "Over the Rainbow" rendition at least 10 times on the TiVo these past few days! My dad was even watching Bruddah Iz's version online yesterday. I think that alone shows that Jason really proved himself - to skeptical viewers and to those judges who had the nerve to doubt him so!

P.S. Last time I checked - Bruddah Iz's version was No.8 on iTunes. Jason has done it again!
  5. Thank you John Norris for declaring your support of Jason Castro. He is quite original, like you said. Never seen an idol contestant like him before. In fact, never cared for American Idol until I saw Jason Castro sing "Daydream". Now I have finger cramps from voting...

    p.s. I got the shirt :)
  6. Hey John!

I'm really loving your support of Jason! I will always get excited now when I see a thread titled "John Norris" on the AI Boards! You are awesome! Thanks so much!
