So last week we posted a track-by-track reaction to the online leak of what we called “chunks of all [Hard Candy]’s completed songs.” And boy, did the Madonna fans out there go ballistic.
Yes, we understand that the entire album has not leaked online. So let’s really spell it out: these were reactions to the intro’s and hooks of each track. So that means we listened to about one minute of every track and gave our “free-associative” response. Not an “official review,” Madonna diehards. Dag, people!
And look, if you’ve heard the same snippets and disagree that much, write in and tell us why.

There's a proper review in Australia by a journalist who has spilled the beans on his blog, it's really interesting. I think I'm going to hold my breath and trust his judgements.

Can't wait to finally hear it myself.
MTV..home of one reality show after another, and NO music...who cares what they say about madonna's music? she would have to be drunk and having cameras follow her to be relevant to MTV's dwindling audiences.
The album is fantastic, and the fact that MTV cant see that while Rolling Stone (they review a lot of music, if you dont know) can identify the album as 4/5 stars proves that MTV is a dying source of music. They are however, a great source for promoting alcoholism, gluttony, and being an overall douchebag. European's perception of American youth is now seen as The Hills, while most of our youth hate that MTV is soiling our generation. Try to promote people our age that are actually doing good for the world, and we MIGHT pay attention to your opinions. Until then, you will just be the CW with more money.
Good job, MTV. You really have things figured out.
Today I was fortunate to hear most of the album and it's without a doubt one of her absolute best, she's finally back to making music that is free from spiritual studies and political preachings. Anyone that remotely likes Madonna would love it and it's very reminiscent of her earlier work!
Out of 12 songs there were probably 3 weaker tracks and even those were far from bad.
Great album, ROLLING STONE and BLENDER were absolutely right.
Also, your original statement did not disclose that you werent reviewing the full songs, to my recollection.
This album is ACE. I've heard every track and its definitely a stomper with great lyrics, beats and fresh production.
One of Madonna's top albums for sure.
TRULY, Thanks to Madonna, MTV made it for years. Most of the highlights of MTV's most important years are due to Madonna's performances. Yet, when two faced MTV, that promotes "stabbing", calling woman "whores" banned Madonna's videos, she just sold the videos and made more money. Someone like Madonna doesn't need MTV especially now that there is YOUTUBE, where you can actually watch music videos. Remember everyone, MTV also has Janet Jackson banned from MTV forever. They obvioulsy got into too much drugs and their earlier success is no longer there because of their spoiled, arrogant directions and views.
... and I must say, it's actually quite brilliant. In fact, I'm returning the shitty E=MC^2 I bought, so I can get the money back, and buy Hard Candy instead!
Madonna has actually got a GOOD album out this year!

I'm genuinely excited about this album and what Madonna has to bring to the table.
I am a skeptical Madonna fan, ready for her to pull out spiritually inspired cliche's with 3 note melodies- and she has had a lot of them, but this album is her most inspired in over a decade, with a clear American RnB feel to it.
Some of the songs may be over-produced, but who isn't these days? Non fans will love this album and it absolutely caters to the needs of the hardcore and die-hards like myself!
"Mtv"- get a clue!
I was a fan of Madonna. 'Ray of light' is one of my favourite albums, however after downloading the retail copy of her new album off a private tracker site (I wont mention) the other day I'm thrilled to say that it's one of the worst albums ever made, just noise, another stupid R&B collection that just sounds rubbish. whoever thought Timberland is a good producer must be mental. He has destroyed so many songs notably by Furtado and One Republic with his backing vocals (if you can call them vocals) that I don't feel guilty at all for deleting them after I've downloaded them.
The state of the music industry is a joke. Paying for music to begin with when it all sounds the same, computerized singing, god awful beats, and attracting big names to a single (Timberland/timberlake) '4 minutes' just to sell it, I mean come on......
Oh and Joe, Please go out and listen to techno music, there is not a single sample of techno on this album, you're showing your typical teenager who thinks they know music based on what is in the charts immaturity.
I am just a casual Madonna fan -- but I think 'Hard Candy' is an incredibly strong album, which just goes to show she is still relevant in today's industry.
I'm sorry to say that I saw more music videos on The Noggin channel the other day than I see today on MTV. When will the honchos at MTV open their eyes and acknowledge what the "M" stands for in MTV.
oh elliot..yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but have you followed the charts in the last 5 or 6 years?? timberland has produced a slew of #1s. nelly and one republic had huge hits...thanks to him. you really need to get a clue about today's music. do you work for mtv?
at 36, i've been a fan of madonna's since 1984. i hated her at first. then when she released true blue and changed her look drastically, and her sound a bit, i was sold.
yes, she is pandering to today's music - something that i am sooo tired of (the special guest rap/hip hop artist, yawn). but face it, like previous sounds and crazes, it's here to stay. and when it's produced well and good, it's hot, hot, hot.
madonna's new album is back to her roots. pop music with today's r&b flavor added. no spirituality, no message songs, no weird guitar solos, ugh. and i want to point out...her biggest hit...the one that was #1 for 8 weeks was TAKE A BOW...produced by babyface and very r&b flavored. so why wouldn't she try and repeat that success??
her last album, CONFESSIONS, was also very favorably reviewed, #1 in over 30 countries, and all of her singles charted high on other charts, except in the US. and that's b/c US radio IS only playing hip hip/r&b friendly music. so i don't blame her for going that route. good for her! (and her people for pushing her in that direction) :)
Oh gosh, I think I'm going to get hated on for saying this but I do think that she has dumbed herself down a bit - mostly lyric wise - to appeal to a different fan base.
She's even repeated a bunch of lyrics "I can't keep waiting for you" in Beat Goes On which was in Hung Up and fuzzy dream in "Miles Away" was also in "I'm so stupid" I know I'm very detailed
I think she could have picked better people to work with - the whole timberlake/timbaland thing is getting old and kanye west rap was not all that great.
If it was my choice (HAA!) I would have chosen to work with Eminem (aslo considred a controversial artist), maybe Jay Z, and I would have called Patrick Leonard and William Orbit. Now that would have been hot!
Now as far as the 4 minute video - it's alright- the conveyer belt scene was pretty hot but I've already seen that on the Re-Invention Tour - and Justin could have shaved and dressed a little bit better (um hell it's the queen!) and I was sad to see that Madonna really didn't update her look for the video.
The standout tracks on this cd are def. HeartBeat, Miles Away, and Beat Goes On.
I do not understand why some people looove Give It To Me - to be honest it totally reminds me of an updated version of "Cosmic Climb"
Please don't get me wrong I looove Madonna, but I am a bit dissapointed.
