This slightly enraging email from MTV News producer Daniel “Monty” Montalto:

I was seriously surprised today to realize that I have something in common with this Iranian official: we both now agree (um, for different reasons) that Barbie is evil.

Let me explain: I went to buy a Barbie for my friend’s daughter the other day, and the only non-white Barbies I could find were the not-so-appealing “friends of Barbie” with their smaller packaging and less colorful and less ornate (and therefore more boring) clothing. I mean, even Barbie “Mariposa” (despite having been named after the Spanish word for “butterfly”) had blonde hair and fair skin.

The few Barbie Mariposas that did have brown or black skin (or even brown or black hair) were glitter-less and had smaller wings. Seriously, they looked more like gnats than butterflies. Just check out the website.
