Beck Set to Release New Album, Stat!
BeckAlbum

Though neither his publicist nor his label would confirm any of it, MTV News has spoken to several individuals close to Beck, and they all tell us that he’s gearing up to release a brand new album in the very near future — think the next 4-6 weeks — through the Universal Music Group.

And that’s not all — we’ve also heard that said album will be produced by Danger Mouse and feature collaborations with a host of artists, including Cat Power.

Our amazing sources also say that fans can expect an official announcement about the album veeerrrry soon.

In the meantime, Beck is busy lining up appearances at various European summer festivals, in addition to a handful of shows on the West Coast in late August.

Anyway, don’t say we didn’t warn you…

  1. WHO CARES???

beck is so decade-old college news--i remember when i was at wharton about ten years ago and i totally crushed on him. but, i got to say, you're really showing your age, james. or you're aspiring to be older than you are. either way--lame!

let's get serious. this blog is doing great things keeping me informed on everything that matters--mainly, the trials and tribulations of pete wentz--but every so often we get hiccuped posts like this that make me think im an acne ridden grad student in the mid-nineties. that time period swells up awful memories, ones ive spent years burying, and there's a reason why 50 is culturally on top of everything and beck whines around every few years. let's stay on focus. if this were the finance world i work in, you'd be canned for an indiscretion like this, buddy.

in the future, let's get with it, huh? more pete wentz! less dinosaurs!
  2. Sigh. Seriously, if you're going to post a "Who cares?" message about a musician with genuine talent and staying power on the level of someone like Bob Dylan (I cannot WAIT to hear the albums Mr. Hansen will be putting out 20 or 30 years from now) in favor of someone you consider to be a "superior" artist, then Jesus God, please make it anyone other than f***ing Pete "S***" Wentz.

No one over the age of 16 gives a s*** about Wentz or Fall Out Boy's tired, flavor-of-the-moment, pseudo-emo bulls*** music. They'll be off the cultural radar in about two years, give or take. If you're so anxious to know which pair of skin-tight dork jeans that pile of hair gel is wearing this week, go pick up an issue of "Teen Beat." They include fold-out posters, I hear.

And Beck, though he may not be as popular today with the short-attention-span-having public as he was 10 years ago, is still putting out daring, groundbreaking work that surpasses 95 percent of the bands and artists who just want to be a VH1 You Oughta Know Artist for three months and then fade quietly into obscurity. A team-up between Beck and Danger Mouse has the potential to seriously be one of the best thing to happen to music this year.
  3. Biz Markie says: "Oh snap!"
  4. Megum-

Your ravings--moreso than those of the article's progenitor-- have all the characteristics of a soup eating, memory impaired geriatric. And your obscenity is overwrought and downright hurtful.

But to the matters that matter most--the brilliance (and hotness) of Pete Wentz. Record sales have remained steady for my man, as Beck has tumbled into obscurity. I would never say that Petey is a one hit wonder, nor would I declaim valueless the droves who define relevant culture who flock to his heartfelt swooning. You're wearing your age, old man, and you need to get with modernity and popular culture! Pete Wentz's times and culture! For realz!

I would take the more confident, expansive, and hotly brilliant FROM UNDER THE CORK TREE over the gross mediocrity of SEA CHANGE or GUERO every day and Sunday. Have you even heard a Fall Out Boy song? Probably not. Nuff said!
  5. Jack, being a longtime Fall Out Boy fan myself... I would have to say to you, also, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. (though I wouldn't go as far as you call Pete a "s***bag", which to me sounds like something I used to say back in Middle school, let alone college)

Yes, Beck's greatest popularity was years ago, but having a CD released by this extremely talented musician is far more interesting, then finding out about the "trial and tribulations of Pete Wentz," go read the US magazine, or even his multiple journals he has floating around the internet, for that. Though James is a friend/fan of FOB, doesn't mean that he's blind sighted, and doesn't know that there are far more tatlented musicians out there.

And really... I believe James writes more then enough of FOB related blogs and articles to last a lifetime. Sorry James, I love your writings, but it's true :)
  6. Meh, people still like Beck (myself included) all over the place. Let them/me get excited. Also, I didn't realize that record sales really had much to do with artistic integrity? Modest Mouse was a great band for years and years before they had a money maker. Fall Out Boy = a fart on the music radar scene, and you can like them all you want but I don't really understand anger over mentioning something/somebody other than them?
  7. God I hope jack is trolling
  8. Wahoo! There are still a lot of Beck fans out there. Just because he doesn't play mainstream radio edits, doesn't mean he isn't talented. I have seen Beck live twice and was two of the best shows I have ever seen! He rocks and if he can re-invent him self over and over, I think thats pretty awesome. I know I am excited! Plus, if Johnny Cash covered one of his songs...u know he is gotta be awesome!
  9. I don't even see how you could even begin to compare Fallout Boy to Beck. It's not even a competition. Beck is FAR more talented and has such a broad range of music. Every time I hear Fallout Boy I imagine some confused loser emo kid with too much eyeliner, a eye patch and bandana. Emo's are pretty much losers. They just have cool haircuts.
  10. God I'm so effing excited.

    Beck is like my religion.

And $?*?@ whoever mentioned friggin Pete Wentz.

Pete Wentz is not a musician.

    He's a whiny adolescent girl.

    Beck is friggin sweet.

    Everything he does is bomb.
  11. WTFWTFWTFWTF *head explodes*
  12. It reads to me like Jack is trying to escape his OWN rapid aging. Here we have the balding 30-something that skulks about in the hip local club, parroting the styles and behavior of all the college kids -- eagerly courting their favor, only to be shunned by all but the most sympathetic among them.
