This in from MTV News intern Nicole (far right), diehard fan of all that is Jesse McCartney:
Imagine this: it’s the year 2000, and the new boy band Dream Street features your very first celebrity crush -- Jesse McCartney. Just 11 years old, the kid is adorable. He’s got blonde hair, blue eyes, and a gorgeous smile that are melting 12-year-old hearts across America. I scooped up Jesse posters, plastered them all over my bedroom walls, and daydreamed about what it would be like to meet him.
Fast-forward eight years, to this spring. I’m sitting at my desk in MTV News’ intern zone. I get a phone call from our supervisor asking if I would like to help on an interview with a certain Jesse McCartney. Unreal. I’d been on shoots before with celebrities, but this was my first bona fide OMG. I stood up and asked, with a huge grin, “Would anyone like to join me on a shoot with Jesse McCartney?” Every single girl in the area jetted to the interview room.
Piled into the corner office, we waited for his arrival, betting on what he’d be wearing and play-by-play analyzing every track on his last two albums. (Jesse was coming to talk about his latest, Departed, which drops today.) Then he arrived!
(Our interns' hilarious reaction -- and a video bite from Jesse himself -- after the jump.)
First off, we were completely wrong about his attire. This was the new Jesse: neatly pressed shirt and pants, sleek gray tie, and black shades. The biggest shocker, for those who didn’t know what to expect, was that his beautiful blonde hair had been buzzed off. He looked nothing like what we’d pictured -- but his presence silenced us all. My heart was pounding, and I felt like a 12-year-old all over again. But I just sat there, like the rest of the interns: deer caught in the headlights.
As he talked about the album’s first single, “Leavin’,” Jesse described the video –- and you better believe waves of hatred spread through the room. It seemed that the clip featured our husband and some girl rolling around on a bed heavily making out.
Ultimately, that wench aside, I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the video. Sure, there was some action happening there, but Jesse, on behalf of females (and, um, some males!) everywhere, can we please get a full shot of your hot bod in the next music vid?? Maybe with all this image makeover business, you forgot to bulk up a little in the gym? We forgive you this time Jesse! But we expect more in the future!
Later on, I got to speak one on one with Jesse. (You like how I drop that in, all casual?) He wanted to know everything about my internship -- how I got it, what exactly I do, how I like college. (How sweet is that?) We talked about his schedule and how demanding it can be. Then he quickly pointed out how he doesn’t mind all the hard work because he adores his fans and really appreciates their support.
To hear from Jesse himself about much he hopes his fans will support this new album, check out this clip below. And let’s help this hottie go platinum...
