· U.K. newspaper The Times reported on Thursday that Madonna has hired Fiona Shackleton, the same lawyer who handled the Paul McCartney divorce case, and that she is seeking legal advice for a possible divorce from Guy Ritchie, her filmmaking husband of seven years. When asked about the report, a spokesperson for Madonna told MTV News: "No comment at this time."
Dr. Jan Adams — who operated on Kanye West's late mother, Donda — has lost his license to practice medicine after failing to pay child support, according to TMZ. The doctor was also arrested for DUI early Thursday (June 26).
· Here we go again ... already? Fox has announced the eight audition cities for the upcoming eighth season of "American Idol." Hopefuls can start lining up for their shot at instant fame, with auditions hitting San Francisco, Phoenix and the first-ever location outside the contiguous 48 states — San Juan, Puerto Rico.
· Slash reportedly dialed up Sebastian Bach "out of the blue" for some kind of "mind-blowing" top-secret rock project that doesn't involve fronting Velvet Revolver. Bach says taking that gig would be awkward, given his BFF status with Guns N' Roses leader Axl Rose. Please, please tell us it's a new line of hard-rockin’ hair-care products!
· Ever sat around and thought, "Dude, my band could totally blow Coldplay off the stage!" Here's your chance. The band is running a contest in which the winner gets to open for Coldplay on one of their upcoming North American tour dates.
· Bad news for Amy Winehouse's jailed husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. On Wednesday, a London court cleared pub landlord James King on charges of obstruction of justice for taking a $394,000 bribe to spare his attackers — which included Fielder-Civil — from jail. Fielder-Civil and an accomplice have pleaded guilty to attacking King, and Fielder-Civil faces up to five years in prison.
· European and American academics met on Wednesday to discuss society's fascination with "train-wreck" female celebrities at a conference that included such discussion topics as "Britney's Tears: The Abject Female Celebrity in Postemotional Society" and "Hooker, Victim and/or Doormat: Lindsay Lohan and the Culture of Celebrity Notoriety." If professors had taught this stuff when we were in school, we totally would have aced it. Just sayin'.
· Be Your Own Pet have pulled out of their slot on this summer's Vans Warped Tour due to the exhaustion brought on by their "intense" schedule over the past six months. "Something had to give and sadly it's this tour," the band explained on their site.
· Speaking of the Warped Tour, the punk juggernaut is tipping its hat to the roots of the genre with the return of the "Old School Stage" on a string of West Coast dates from August 14-17. Among the acts teeing up for those shows are Agent Orange, Big Drill Car, the Dickies, Fear, D.I., the Germs, H20, (SoCal band) M.I.A. and T.S.O.L.
· There's a new Cold War Kids album coming on September 23, and based on the snippets of a new tune they posted as part of a cryptic video on their site, it sounds awesome!
