It seems like every time I catch up with Maroon 5 they’re about to head out on tour, and the situation was no different last week. Band members Adam Levine and James Valentine were kind enough to give us a few minutes of their time while prepping for their North American jaunt with Counting Crows.
Marooned in a studio near Los Angeles, the guys rehearsed on a fully rigged stage (exactly how it will appear on tour) complete with TONS of lasers — and you can never have too many lasers, as James pointed out. “I want to have them shoot out of my guitar!” he said.
In between prepping for their upcoming tour, the fivesome has found time to shoot yet another video for the re-release of It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, for the song “Goodnight Goodnight.” They were mum on the details, saying they didn’t want to spoil anything.
“You’ll just have to wait and see. It’s a secret, it’s a surprise,” Adam said.
James added, “Rihanna’s not in it,” in reference to their recent video for “If I Never See Your Face Again” with the good girl gone bad.
So while die-hard Maroon 5 fans will have to wait for the video’s release, they will be treated to a spiced-up live show in the meantime. James told us, “We’ve been touring for a long time, so a lot of these fans have been coming out to see us for a very long time. We don’t want anybody to ever see the same show, so we’re changing it up right now.”
Maroon 5’s co-headlining tour with Counting Crows kicks off Friday at the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheatre in Virginia. Sara Bareilles will be opening up the show for the first half of the tour while Augustana finishes out the second half.
