MTV News' very own Sway, along with former New York Knick John Starks and rapper Jim Jones, have joined forces as the board of directors for the Entertainers 4 Education Alliance's "I Will Graduate" campaign.
The effort seeks to empower youth by promoting education and positive decision making using famous faces to help spread their message.
"I joined E4EA because I believe it's time that we [entertainers] make education as appealing to the youth as we do rap, sports and the pursuit of money," Sway said.
John Starks mirrored his feelings, saying, "I'd like to say the reason I got involved with the 'I Will Graduate' campaign and also became a board member of the E4EA organization is the incredible impact that this campaign will have on our youth. I'm extremely excited about being a part of this organization and making a difference in the lives of our youth of today and tomorrow."
Jim Jones agreed. "It's only right that I give back to the community, and E4EA is the perfect organization which offers such a great service where I can use my celebrity status to let our youth know to make smart choices and education is very important," he said, finishing by rolling out his catchphrase: "Graduating from high school — that's balling!"
The campaign will hold its yearly event, the Stay in School Concert & Expo, in October at New York's Manhattan Center. The daylong event allows thousands of the city's young people to meet performers and hear about the campaign's message of education, career advancement and social commitment.
