Believe it or not, there was actually a time when "Gossip Girl" didn't exist. Crazy, right? Well, not for Cecily von Ziegesar, who created the book series when she was an editor at Alloy Entertainment.
She loves the show, despite finding one or two qualms, and admits that Chuck and his crazy sense of style make it easy for her to TiVo week after week.
Although she was a self-proclaimed nerd back in the day, opting for the classics over "Sweet Valley High," she did admit to MTV News her one literary guilty pleasure: "I guess secretly I was reading 'Flowers in the Attic' under the covers," she said. "I think that would have been an interesting TV show. Somebody should bring that back as a TV show."
Next up for von Ziegesar is a book about college kids. "It's set in a small New England college, like the one that I went to," she said. "And it's a little darker and twisted than 'Gossip Girl.' There's one character in it that the 'Gossip Girl' readers will recognize, and she can easily be in 'Gossip Girl.' It's about people struggling to figure out what they're doing.
"I think I'm just really slow to mature," she said about the fact that she's only now writing about high school and college. "I'm going through each stage. By the time I'm in my 70s, I'll be writing about my 30s."
Is Gossip Girl your guilty pleasure? Are you looking forward to von Ziegesar's next book? Tell us!
