DALLAS — On Tuesday (February 3) in the Las Colinas section of this city, Grammy Award-winning production duo Play N Skillz sat down for an interview with local CBS affiliate Channel 11. PNS were the subject of an upcoming segment airing on the station about their production on Lil Wayne's Grammy-nominated "Got Money."
Nestled in their home recording studio in a gated community, minutes prior to the interview, a red-eyed Play — tired from an all-night studio session with Slim Thug, Paul Wall and Pitbull — sat right up and greeted the MTV News team. "Had a good time last night? You tired?" he asked me. I threw the same question back at him. "This is what we do," he replied.
As the CBS crew began to set up the interview, which included the pair concocting a beat on the spot, I made my way downstairs but couldn't help noticing the variety of plaques that adorned the wall. One in particular, courtesy of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, caught my attention.
With a Grammy win already under their belt for their work on Chamillionaire's "Ridin'," the consensus out in D-Town is that the siblings might have to make more room on the wall for another accolade following Sunday evening's ceremony.
"Who you bringing with you to the show on Sunday?" Skillz's publicist asked him with a smirk. The red-hot producer is dating the daughter of ... let's just say a rap legend who currently has a hit television show on MTV. "There you go!" Play responded, as the whole room erupted in laughter.
