For those of us who are anxiously counting down to Sunday's Oscars, there's something better than golden statues to look forward to: a good-old red-carpet showdown. The contenders? In one corner, the reigning champions: Brad Pitt and his baby mama, Angelina Jolie. In the other, Brad's ex Jennifer Aniston and her arm candy, John Mayer.
So which power couple's got the edge? Let's break it down.
Buzz: Both Brad and Angelina are nominated for Oscars, but since Mayer's quotes about being "an Oscar boyfriend" lit up the blogosphere last night, the anticipation of seeing Jen and John together seems to be all anyone can talk about.
The winners: Aniston and Mayer. Brangelina have ruled the red carpets for many awards seasons, but Janiston (Jayer? Johnnifer? This couple needs a moniker ASAP) have hype on their side.
Style: Brad's and Angelina's overt sex appeal has taken a backseat to the sophisticated, slightly more mature look they've been sporting lately. (Angie's gown at the SAG Awards was downright mother-of-the-bride.) Aniston will most likely go for something tight and youthful that screams "I'M OVER YOU."
The winners: It's a draw. Brad trumps John and Jen will outdo Angelina.
PDA: Mark my words: Aniston will prove she's "Just That Into" John Mayer come Oscar night. They've hardly been photographed in the same vicinity together, but they're going to have to compete with Mr. and Mrs. PDA on Sunday.
The winners: Brad and Angelina. Nobody does hand-holding and loving stares like these two.
Sound bites: Not even John's witty comebacks can combat the power of six adorable, multi-ethnic talking points — I mean, children. Pitt and Jolie never fail to deliver the cute quotes when it comes to their kids. But here's hoping Jen goes all angry ex-wife and gives us some good Jolie-bashing zingers. Not likely.
The winners: If Brad and Angie don't snub Ryan Seacrest again, they've got this one locked.
Verdict: The only victorious underdog of the night will be "Slumdog Millionare." Tinseltown royalty Brad and Angelina will take the red-carpet crown. Bow down, Mayerston!
