Back when I was 10 years old, if the Backstreet Boys had put out a movie and stopped by my local theater for a visit, I would have totally resembled every screaming and crying Jonas Brothers fan that were surprised when the boys stopped by their local theaters this past weekend.
As an MTV News intern, I had the opportunity to go to the upstate New York stop of the Jonas Brothers' lengthy weekend agenda of theater visits, in which the pop heartthrobs surprised fans all over the country with stops at undisclosed locations in support of their movie, "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience."
While watching the little curly redhead who couldn't even speak she was so startled, or the pair of teens who couldn't stop jumping up and down and hugging each other, I could only imagine how I would have reacted 10 years ago if it were Nick Carter and Kevin Richardson that were mere feet away from me.
Through my younger sisters (and once I started this gig at MTV), I have been exposed to my fair share of the Jonas Brothers and, until this day, I saw them as the pop group that every teen and pre-teen in the country was ridiculously obsessed with — the sort of obsession that once led me to create a BSB binder of every picture I could ever find of my favorite boy band. However, actually seeing and meeting the brothers I've read and heard so much about was a bit surreal.
I realized that the JoBros truly are this generation's BSB. I may not have ever gotten to meet my favorite boy band, but seeing all of the Jonas fans today gave me a sort of satisfaction. It was extremely touching to see all these little girls go wild, which I think brought out the little girl in me.
OK, OK — I'll admit it. Kevin, Joe and Nick are good-looking dudes. And they were entirely too charming when they told me they'd see me later after a tight schedule forced them to stop posing for pictures with people. And I'm sure I was blushing when they each shook my hand.
Oh, and Kevin and I made eye contact. Twice.
