A few years ago, we brought you a piece on the music supervisors bringing indie rock to prime time. One of those supervisors, Alexandra Patsavas, was credited with breaking Snow Patrol on "Grey's Anatomy" and Phantom Planet on "The O.C."
Well, Alex has teamed up again with TV producer Josh Schwartz (the guy behind "The O.C." and "Gossip Girl") for a new project called "Rockville, CA," a Web series set in a fictional rock club called Rockville.
While Alex and Josh's shows have catapulted a lot of bands to success, this is the first time they are putting music front and center. The show will feature a performance by an indie artist or band in every episode, including Lykke Li, Kaiser Chiefs and Earlimart.
The dramedy premieres today on TheWB.com and was shot entirely on location at the Echo and Echoplex, a famed music venue in L.A.'s Silver Lake neighborhood, the city's indie-rock hub. You might remember seeing folk rockers Foreign Born at the same venue on the series premiere of "Chuck" last year (Alex and Josh work on that show too).
So will "Rockville" be the next launching pad for indie success? You'll have to tune in, er, log on to find out. In the meantime, check out a clip from the Kooks' performance on "Rockville" up above.
