They say, you can tell a lot about a person from the car they drive. Jadakiss drives a BMW M6 — a car that may not look like an exotic two-seater sports car but can certainly perform like one.
With his third studio album, The Last Kiss, hitting stores just a few days ago, Jadakiss has literally been working non-stop. Over the last two weeks, he has appeared on almost every show you could think of, posted a bunch of YouTube videos ("Block Lockdown," haha), done the full radio circuit and still found the energy to perform an intense set at the Highline Ballroom on Wednesday night. We figured he might need a break. So on Wednesday, I invited the self-confessed car enthusiast down to the annual New York International Auto Show, where the biggest and best names in automobiles showcasing their fastest, coolest, greenest and most expensive cars.
For any car nut like myself and Jadakiss, the NY Auto Show is heaven on earth. It's tens of thousands of square feet filled with the all the latest models from the likes of Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, BMW and Bentley, to name just a few. Unfortunately my favourite, Ferrari, was nowhere to be seen this year. The recession strikes again.
There was no running on hip-hop time for this occasion. Jadakiss actually turned up 30 minutes earlier than we expected, eager to see the show. It was funny to see the always-cool Jada kind of lose it when he first walked in and saw the complete Rolls Royce Phantom fleet in all its glory. Yes, Jada's trademark "A-HEY" call isn't something he saves just for the album.
The first thing Jada wanted to see was the most expensive car in the building. That was easy. Parked front and centre on the immaculate Mercedes-Benz stage (not far from the impressive SL65 AMG) was easily one of my top three cars on display: the sub-zero Mercedez-Benz SLR-McLaren 722. Insane. With an astonishing 617 breakhorsepower under the hood, super-charged 5.5 liter AMG V8 engine, 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 207 mph, the numbers don't lie. And neither does the price, $545,000. Worth every penny if you ask me. HA!
Next it was the tough question of which was the fastest car. If the SLR's top speed wasn't fast enough, try the stunning Lamborghini Murcielago with the $30,000 matte-black paint job. This bad boy will do 0-60 in a little under 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 224 mph. Surely, at that speed you can actually travel back in time, right? This was Jada's and my # 1 pick for the coolest-looking car at the show!
But with all the fast and expensive cars there, it actually was an electric car that really stole the show and totally blew Jadakiss and me away.
If anyone is still under the impression that electric cars don't have style, then they haven't met the Fisker. Looks-wise, it could give a Corvette a run for its money. The only ways to tell at a glance that the Fisker is an electric car are the incredibly cool-looking solar panels on the roof and the two fuel caps (one that plugs into the mains and the other for gas). The inside was all digital, no dials in sight, and the main computer onboard has the same touch screen capabilities as an iPhone. Jada couldn't believe what he was hearing or seeing. And if anyone is under the impression that electric cars don't move, the Fisker will do 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 125 mph. As Jada said, "This is the future right here. Sign me up!" A-HEY.
With more than 34 new vehicles being announced at the show, there's a lot to cover. Stay tuned to MTVNews.com for more from Jadakiss and the New York Auto Show.
