On Monday night's red carpet for the Film Society of Lincoln Center's annual gala, the focus was mostly on honoree, Oscar-winner and all-around swell guy Tom Hanks. That is, until our own Josh Horowitz had a chance to speak with Charlize Theron and the talk turned to stars of a very different variety.
As you may have heard, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt of "The Hills" got married last weekend, and Josh wanted to know how Charlize felt about the development.
"Are they here?" she asked hopefully. "Because they should be here."
Josh shook his head.
"We're going home — let's go!" Charlize cried, turning to leave.
See, Josh and Charlize have a long history of back-and-forth over "The Hills." In early 2008, Charlize confessed during an interview that she'd never heard of the MTV reality show.
"Oh, now you're going to make me look like the old fart," she told Josh. "God, you're a mother----er! Unbelievable! You're supposed to make me look like the cool movie star!"
Later that year, Charlize had in fact gotten a chance to watch some episodes, but she remained flummoxed by its popularity. /a> "Why is it so big?" she asked Josh during another interview. "I think the girls are beautiful and when they cry their mascara runs and that's real, but I don't get it!"
Since then, Charlize may have slacked off on her reality show viewing and gossip world reading, because she was surprised to learn that Heidi and Spencer did in fact get hitched over the weekend.
"They did?" she asked. "I thought they were married."
Well, they did tie the knot in Mexico last year, but it didn't count. Any well wishes for the happy couple?
"I always struggle to actually have a thought process about these things," she said. "This is like a documentary."
Josh suggested they need a Charlie Rose-style hour-long interview to discuss everything.
"We really do!" Charlize said. "With lots of whiskey!"
