On Tuesday, during a press conference in New York, Donald Trump, owner of the Miss USA Pageant, stated that in spite of all of the controversy surrounding Carrie Prejean she would retain her crown and the title of Miss California.
On Wednesday (May 13 — incidentally, Prejean's birthday), Prejean appeared on CBS' 'Early Show' and defended her stance, which she feels cost her the title of Miss USA.
"Mr. Hilton obviously gave me a low score because of my answer and I was just expressing my freedom of speech," she said.
Regarding the semi-nude photos of Prejean that found their way onto the Internet, the interviewer asked Prejean hadn't disclosed that the photos existed, even though she was obligated to by the Miss USA contract. Although she says she was just being "naive" by not thinking they'd see the light of day she blamed the photographer for being "unprofessional by releasing photos that were in between shots."
On a related scandal, the interviewer brought up the fact that Prejean had breast implants several weeks before the pageant, and that pageant officials helped her paid for it — how would Miss California explain this to little girls about equating succeeding in life to body enhancement?
"Well, I think that's definitely [an] irrelevant topic," she said.
She also added, "I will always be an advocate for not redefining marriage."
