On May 22, 1959, in Davyhulme, a section of Manchester, England, Steven Patrick Morrissey was born and the course of history changed forever.

You see, it's hard for me to avoid hyperbole when talking about Morrissey (I can truthfully say that he's the person who has had the greatest impact on my life, second only to my own mother), but I really feel his influence cannot be overstated. Some say Morrissey pretty much invented indie rock when he formed the Smiths in 1982 (with Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce), his intelligent and articulate lyrics contrasting greatly with what was on the radio at the time. While you might not agree with this and you might not even like him, his influence can be heard far and wide and probably in the music of some of your favorite bands — from Pete Wentz's lyrics to Brandon Flowers' stage presence to Andre 3000's songwriting (yes, dude wishes he'd written "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me").

From MTVMoviesBlog.com: Our 2009 MTV Movie Awards host Andy Samberg was on Jay Leno's show last night to talk about his days as a temp, loving mothers, his early stand-up career… and of course to plug his Best Kiss contender, "Pommel: The Bobby Brooks Story." Don’t think we’ve got a choice on this one, readers … we’re going to have to give it to him!

It looks like the "Good Morning America" real estate outside of the spacious Times Square could not contain Green Day. In full promotion mode for their latest release, 21st Century Breakdown, the band performed for a very packed crowd not in the middle of Manhattan traffic, but rather, in the comparatively idyllic Rumsey Playfield in the middle of Central Park. If it was any consolation for fans who may have gathered in front of the morning show's usual digs, footage of the concert was shown on the giant screen outside the ABC building.

The band powered through three songs on air: "American Idiot," off the 2004 album of the same name, along with newer cuts "Know Your Enemy" and the new album's title track. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong kept the audience — filled with children on shoulders and businessmen prepping for the work day with an early-morning rock show — singing along, clapping and, in response to his call, jumping throughout the set. For those up for it, a mosh pit also came together in the center of the crowd. Read More...

I guess you know you've made it when your single leaks, right? For British R&B singer Jay Sean, that moment came on Wednesday night, when his U.S. debut single, a poppy dance track called "Down," made its way onto the Internet. Of course, the fate of the song is substantial for Jay: Not only is it the first song from his first U.S. album, My Own Way, but the song features labelmate and rapping titan Lil Wayne.

As Jay Sean revealed to MTV News' Tim Kash, the song is all about consenting folks being "Down" for one another through thick and thin — and Jay was floored when Cash Money CEO Ronald "Slim" Williams shared Wayne's blessing on the track.

We tell you all this because Weezy — along with MTV News — was at the video shoot for "Down" in Miami, and while we can't share our footage from the shoot just yet, we do have pictures. Enjoy!

Notorious BIGArguably one of the greatest rappers ever to clutch the microphone, the Notorious B.I.G. celebrates what would have been his 37th birthday today. That's right, the late great Frank White would have been just three years shy of officially being considered "over the hill."

Since his untimely demise at the age of 24, there's been much speculation for the past decade as to where the Brooklynite would stand in today's rap climate. Would B.I.G. and his sidekick/boss Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs still be rocking together? What about Jay-Z? Lil Kim? Let's take a look.

Bad Boy: Although B.I.G. was the label's flagship artist and only on his second album (a double at that), a certain Mr. Comb's track record of retaining his artists for the duration of their contractual obligations is not an impressive one (check: Craig Mack, Total, 112, Faith Evans, Mase, G. Dep, Black Rob, etc.) So, it's hard to say whether Biggie himself would still be on the once-dominant Bad Boy.

Jay-Z: The two became bosom buddies and were on the verge of creating a supergroup together with Charli Baltimore, dubbed the Commission, before B.I.G. passed. But as history shows, money and power have ruined some of the strongest alliances in hip-hop. Many argue that if B.I.G. were here, then Hov's career wouldn't be as massive as it currently is.

Junior M.A.F.I.A.: Some of Biggie's rap peers turned their heads in disgust when turmoil within the M.A.F.I.A. went public. The Lil Kim/ Lil Cease/ D-Roc fallout and, most recently, Kim verbally attacking B.I.G.'s mother Voletta Wallace over her portrayal in the movie "Notorious" must have B.I.G. turning in his grave. But if Big were still here, maybe the group would still be intact.

Lil' Kim: Kim revisted the national spotlight these past two months with her appearance on "Dancing With the Stars," but B.I.G. had his own plans to turn the starlet into a household name long ago. Critics say Kim's rap career is on ice, but rest assured that if her mentor were still alive today, he'd have none of that.

Faith Evans: The married couple were on the outs when B.I.G. passed, even though they shared the birth of the first child together during their separation. It's a known fact B.I.G. was a ladies man, but his close friends say that his heart belonged to his "Big Fay." Would Faith and Biggie's son, C.J., have eventually reunited his parents?

Nas: Indirectly, the Queensbridge native and Bed Stuy's 'hood mayor were taking verbal shots at each other not long before B.I.G.'s death. Nas acknowledged that he use to hang with Biggie and Puff during Big's Ready to Die days. Then the two later got competitive with each other, tussling for that prestigious King of New York throne. Imagine Nas' "Black Republican" feat Jay-Z and Biggie, or even B.I.G.'s "I Love the Dough" feat Jay-Z and Nas. (Nas talks about the whole King Of New York thing)

Tupac: Before his own death, Pac was shifting away from Death Row and possibly the whole East Coast vs. West Coast beef and working on an album with Brooklyn group Black Moon on the album "One Nation." Though Pac was piping mad at B.I.G. in his final days, working with a fellow Brooklyn act was a start to end their beef. Eminem brought together vocals from B.I.G. and Pac for the "Resurrection" film, but would the real reunion have eventually been in the works if the legends were still alive?

Happy born day, Frank White. We'll always love Big Poppa.

Last night's "American Idol" left us with a lot to talk about: What was so offensive during the Black Eyed Peas performance that left us with a slate of the show's logo? Why did the camera cut to Janice Dickinson every three seconds? How did Adam Lambert lose? Was that Tatiana Del Toro moment really staged? What in the world was Queen Latifah wearing?

Well, here's the answer to one of those questions:

"This was designed by my designer, my stylist Tim Snow and myself," Queen Latifah explained on the finale's red carpet about her ensemble: a black, close-fitting, one-sleeved jumpsuit, with a zipper that opened across her right side. "We wanted to bring, like, edgy couture funk to the stage — make it a little edgy, put the zippers on it, rock it out but hug the body. Make a girl like me look super sexy." Read More...

And that's a wrap!

Faster than you can say "No Boundaries," a new American Idol has been crowned. The confetti's been swept. The red carpet rolled and tossed in storage. And Paula's battery has been removed so that she can recharge.

But before I say goodbye to this season, I just want to say thanks to all the awesome readers, commenters, bloggers and MTV News staffers who helped make season eight so much flipping fun!

Yesterday, at the "Idol" finale, I got to meet a lot of fans (including Kris Allen!), and it was super cool (and totally surreal) to have random people shout my name when artists like Jason Mraz and the Black Eyed Peas were in the vicinity! All I do is write silly jokes and talk fast. To paraphrase Kris Allen, "I don't deserve this."

So, until we meet again next January (although I'll be doing tons of other stuff for MTV News! Keep watching, kids!), I'll leave you with my final "Idol" video diary. Because every "Idol" adventure should end with a hotel toilet that sounds like Danny Gokey's scream.

About three weeks ago, it appeared that Taylor Lautner and Selena Gomez were embarking on a lovely little romance up in Vancouver, where they are both busy working (Taylor on "New Moon" and Selena on "Ramona and Beezus").

Since then, the two have been seen all over Vancouver hanging out, laughing and snuggling. Now comes word from Life & Style Weekly that the duo are officially romantically involved with one another. On May 4, they reportedly went to dinner at the Keg restaurant, and afterward, "Taylor walked Selena back to her hotel," a source told L&S. "When she didn't think anyone was around, she wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a big kiss!" Afterwards, Lautner was seen sneaking out the back door of the hotel.

While many "American Idol" fans are still reeling from last night's results, some of us aren't so concerned with how America voted. Because for us, the more important aspect of the finale show was its spectacle. Rather, its many spectacles.

In the following list of our 10 favorite insane outfits to grace the Nokia Theatre stage, you'll notice Kris Allen is missing. It takes more than a sweet smile and a black leather jacket to rank #1 here:

1. Adam Lambert attempts to out-glam KISS. I can't be the only one to let out a squeal when I saw those metal shoulder pad/wings, accompanied by jeweled eye-liner and jacket that may or may not have been skinned from a crocodile. I wonder how the Middle America vote would've gone if he'd worn this on Tuesday night? Read More...

Kris Allen loves my "American Idol" recaps. And when he informed me of this backstage at the American Idol" finale, I think my reaction was bigger than when he was crowned the new Idol.

This is my third year doing "American Idol in 60 Seconds," and the third finale I've attended. Since every media outlet and their mother covers "Idol" in some capacity, I never expect my silly video recaps to burst through all the noise. Plus, I always assumed "Idol" contestants avoided the Internet like the swine flu while they were on the show, since so many bloggers are gainfully employed to take dumps on "Idol" singers week to week.

In other words, I never expected any of the Idols to recognize me.

So, when Kris said my name and acted like he knew who I was, as you could imagine, I became quite flabbergasted. (The words "Holy crap!" flew out of my mouth as many times as Kara says "artistry!")

Funny thing is, on the red carpet before the show, when Adam and Kris were whisked over to speak to the crew from "Ellen" (the only outlet they gave an interview to there, oddly enough), Kris stopped to shake my hand like we were buddies. I just figured he thought I was the "Ellen" producer (we were standing next to their crew on the carpet). Or maybe he dug my "TEAM KRADAM" custom T.

And then he said it: " 'American Idol in 60 Seconds' is the funniest thing ever."

Kris Allen likes my work. Scratch that. OUR NEW AMERICAN IDOL likes my work. And if the American Idol endorses my recaps, then, by golly, you should watch them and send them to all your friends, whether they're in the Allen Nation or they're Glamberts.
