Tickets to tomorrow's Michael Jackson memorial service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles are a hot commodity on eBay (some fetching bids as high as 10 and 20 thousand dollars), but the MJ obsession on the auction site doesn't end there. Hundreds, if not thousands, of Jackson-related auctions have cropped up, from autographs to replica fashion items to commemorative tickets to his scheduled concert stand at London's O2 arena.
The most price-gouging auctions have nothing to do with Jackson memorabilia, though. Rather, they are the ones for Jackson-related domain names. Want to be the owner and proprietor of TheGodOfPop.com? That can be yours for the bargain price of 10 million dollars. How about UnreleasedMichaelJacksonTracks.com? You can have it for 12 million. Some of the URLs are just ridiculous, like SayonaraMichael.com and MichaelJacksonJoinsElvis.net. All of these domains have been put up for bid for millions of dollars, perhaps assuming that Jackson-related domains will be lucrative long after the singer drops out of Google Trends. It should be noted that none of these seem to have any bids yet, though most of them do have the "Best Offer" option. But seriously, can anybody justify dropping five million dollars on ThrillerDies.com?
But by far the best MJ-related auction is the one for a single Cheetos snack, which was supposed to look like Jackson doing the Moonwalk and sold for $35.18. What's more amazing? The winning bidder has only a single bid on his voting record, which means that person signed up to eBay specifically to bid on the dance-posed snack.
