Over the past few months, the recession has affected the lives of tens of millions of Americans. Families have been forced into foreclosure on their homes, thousands of college grads are entering a nearly non-existent job market and even giant corporations and banks are feeling the sting.
With so many people affected by the recession, it's easy to overlook the plight of rappers. Thankfully, last night "Daily Show" correspondent Wyatt Cenac sat down with the "Boss of All Bosses" Slim Thug to discuss how the recession has affected him personally.
"It's a lot less ballin' now that the recession has came about," the rapper said. "I used to roll with 20 dudes, tour bus, everywhere around the whole country. Nowadays you get a van."
Truth be told, rap videos have lacked the same gusto that once made them infamous. Gone are the days of pouring champagne on a scantly clad young lady. Cash Money, Kanye and Jay-Z are perhaps the only people who can still pull that off.
"It's definitely not as many video hoes as it used to be," said Slim Thug. He said the number of video hoes has dwindled from ten to maybe two, and even then there are problems.
"She may bring her kids to the video shoot. You used to have trailers, but now since we're cutting down on budgets, you have a table set up with snacks," he said. "The kids [are] taking your snacks. They're running around with bananas and M&Ms. It's just not appealing like it used to be. It's kind of depressing."
Ultimately, it's fun to see Slim Thug poking fun at the situation. He and Cenac ultimately sit down to lay off one of the members of his entourage to cut down on his costs.
