Another season of "Dancing with the Stars" came to a close last night, and in a fairly ridiculous upset, Donny Osmond ended the night walking out with that wacky mirrorball trophy. Mya, who by all accounts should have walked away the champ, came in second, and Kelly Osbourne ended up in third place.

Here's the thing: It's not that Donny Osmond is a bad dancer. He worked extremely hard over the course of the season and never really had an off night. And he was certainly an underdog coming into the finale, considering how much older he was than the other finalists and how limited his costume choices were week to week (anybody who doesn't think that the scantily-clad ladies on this show don't have an advantage is sorely mistaken). But if they really wanted to reward sheer skill, you can't argue with Mya. On the other hand, Osbourne has been by far the better underdog story, having spent some time facing elimination and coming through some truly disastrous dances and at least one minor injury. The Osmond victory feels a little milquetoast, but perhaps ABC was just playing it safe following Lambertgate.

Now that the season is over, what have we learned? "Dancing with the Stars" may have hit the wall this season, as the entertainment factor was wildly inconsistent from episode to episode. The stories that did emerge (especially Osbourne and the bipolar struggle of Aaron Carter) were pretty compelling, but most of the performances have either been delightful disasters or too on-the-nose. For example, was there anything compelling about Joanna Krupa? She was a pretty good (but not transcendent) dancer and didn't have much of a personality. Where was the joy in watching her every week? If this show wants to have any sort of relevance and entertainment value when it returns next spring, perhaps the script needs to be flipped, perhaps adding a more playful mix of dance styles (the super-progressive "So You Think You Can Dance" makes "Dancing with the Stars" look like a trip to the retirement home in comparison). And let's trim those results shows — last night's finale lasted two hours and featured little more than a bunch of middling returns and Osmond singing "Puppy Love." On the bright side, maybe now Mya can get back to the business of crafting slinky R&B jams.

Earlier today, MTV News' Jim Cantiello sat down with "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert, who just dropped his debut album For Your Entertainment but has been grabbing headlines this week for an entirely different reason. On Sunday night (November 22), Lambert took the stage at the American Music Awards to perform his single "For Your Entertainment," which included plenty of pelvic gyrations, an impromptu kiss, Lambert slipping and falling, a handful of missed notes and Lambert's middle fingers. The performance caused quite a stir, as ABC (the network broadcasting the American Music Awards) received several hundred complaints about it, and it lead directly to "Good Morning America" (also an ABC property) canceling Lambert's appearance on Wednesday (November 25) morning's show. (Lambert will still appear on morning television — CBS' "The Early Show" booked him almost immediately.)

Lambert was candid about his performance of "For Your Entertainment" and the intentions that he had. As a very special part of the interview, Lambert took Cantiello through "For Your Entertainment" step by step, and the video below shows him to be honest and revelatory. Stay tuned for much more from Lambert in the coming days, but for now check out his look back on the event that is already defining his young career.

When the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards air next Friday, you'll be able to see a number of instantly classic moments, from Matt and Kim's half-naked performance to Asher Roth's stage dive to Mary-Louise Parker's f-bomb while introducing the Dead Weather. (There will be just as many moments that will not end up on the air — like the Clipse's run-in with a cockroach.) One of the most definitive portions of the show is delivered by 3OH!3, who walked on stage to present an award dressed like Lady Gaga.

But clearly that game of dress-up required a little preparation. For example, the duo shared their grooming tips. "This beard is made by Versace," joked Sean Foreman. "I would not dry this beard on warm — I would probably hand dry this beard when you're done washing it."

But "Beardvember" wasn't the only thing on their minds that night. When MTV asked them what the next big trend in movies would be once vampires have run their course, they gave it some thoughtful consideration. "I'd like to see some sexy zombies," joked Foreman. "It would give brain a whole new meaning."

That earned a high five from Nathaniel Motte, who added, "I'd like to see sexbots. Those are sexual robots."

Whether or not they'll be creating young adult literature based around sexy robots remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: They've dressed as Lady Gaga, have well-manicured beards and can be seen on the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards, which air Friday, December 4 at 10 p.m. on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU.

This morning, "Good Morning America" devoted a full 30 minutes of the program to Rihanna, where she spoke briefly and performed three songs: "Wait Your Turn (Tha Wait is Ova)," "Russian Roulette" and "Umbrella." It's incredible to think that only four years ago, she was an unknown singer who first grabbed attention with "Pon De Replay," an infectious island-inflected dance tune that introduced her unique point of view and approach to pop music.

Though Rihanna hadn't yet adopted her very particular style (which was best on display in videos like "Disturbia"), she was still a confident artist who sent herself head-first into her music. "It's just imagination, being creative; that's what my music is composed with," she said in her first interview with MTV News. "Being creative and thinking of situations, whether situations I went through or situations I've observed people going through."

Since she hadn't even cut the video for "Pon De Replay" yet (and was years away from delivering definitive performances on the 2007 and 2008 MTV Video Music Awards), her vision of the future was simple. "I can't tell you where I'll see myself in five years, but I can tell you I will work my best to be the most successful artist that I can be," she told MTV News.

Four years, three albums, a bunch of top-shelf collaborations and one massive, chart-topping single later, Rihanna has blossomed into one of the most forward-thinking artists in the hip-hop and R&B world. Take a look at her first interview with MTV News below, where it's clear that she may be young, but she wasn't naive.

"We were told before we went that our Brazilian fans might be more enthusiastic than normal. One day Kristen [Stewart] and I, we were doing interviews on the second floor, and all of a sudden our security guards rush in and lock the doors all around us. And they come up to us and they're very calm and they go, 'Two thousand girls just rushed the hotel lobby. They got past hotel security, and somehow they know you're up in this room and they're on their way up right now.' That's the only time I have ever felt in danger. They started shaking the doors."

-"New Moon" star Taylor Lautner, whose shirtless appeal as Jacob Black extends far beyond Forks, Washington and onto other continents. Lautner appeared last night on "The Tonight Show" and had plenty of funny stories to tell host Conan O'Brien. For instance, he talked about how he managed to develop the skill to catch grapes in his mouth (he credits co-star Stewart), which he also demonstrated for O'Brien and his studio audience. The star also joked about his constant shirtlessness in "New Moon." "There is a scene where [Kristen Stewart] gets a cut, and there's only one way to handle a serious cut like this, and its just to rip [my shirt] off!" he laughed. "A fan actually asked me in London, 'If you could give Jacob any advice, what would it be?' And I said, 'If somebody gets cut, you don't need to take your shirt off.'" But all that shirt-doffing clearly worked for audiences, as "New Moon" took in over $142 million during its premiere weekend — good enough for the third-biggest opening of all time.

Adam Lambert fans have had an exhausting 36 hours. First, they had to defend their man's salacious (and pitchy) display at the American Music Awards Sunday night. Then word spread early this morning that "Good Morning America," ABC's morning show, had pulled the plug on Lambert's upcoming appearance. (An ABC spokesperson said, "Given his controversial live performance on the AMAs, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning.")

Lucky for Adam fans hoping to catch the Glittery One live in NYC, CBS stepped up immediately and announced that they will be hosting the Lambert performance on "The Early Show" tomorrow morning. Hope you like glam pop, Julie Chen!

All this back-and-forth got us thinking: If Adam Lambert did end up stuck without a high-profile gig to promote his just-released CD For Your Entertainment, here are five other media appearances we'd kill to see happen. Looking for controversy, Adam? Try one of these on for size!

Picture this: Adam and his band rocking "If I Had You" on a giant glittery float slowly moving down Fifth Avenue, passing by creeped-out families who trekked in from New Jersey for the day. And think of the creative ways Adam could use a giant Dora the Explorer float in his act!

The mtvU Woodie Awards are unlike any other awards show out there. It plays fast and loose with conventions, allowing the crowd to mix with the talent and the performers and providing a high-energy forum for jubilant live performances. Also, there's a lot more cursing than at, say, the Tonys.

The red carpet is also different from any other pre-show in America. For one, the carpet isn't really red (at least at MTV News special spot, where it was black and shiny). Considering the variety of groups who show up to the Woodies, there's also something of a party vibe, where everybody rolls with the punches and just has a good time.

Case in point: During the run-up to last week's show, MTV News caught up with Pusha T and Malice of the Clipse, who were eager to share details about their upcoming album Til the Casket Drops, an album that Malice referred to as "hip-hop on steroids." While Pusha T was naming off the list of guests and collaborators (including Kanye West and the Neptunes), he noticed a tiny visitor crawling behind us and felt the need to give it a shout out.

That's how cool the Woodies are: Everybody is invited (even the bugs!) and nobody freaks out when things don't go the way they should. Could you imagine if a cockroach jumped out at Billy Bush on the Oscar red carpet? It'd be chaos. But at the Woodies, everything's cool because it's all part of the show. There are plenty more fast and loose moments coming when the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards air next Friday, December 4 at 10 p.m.

Every day a multitude of stars wanders through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.

Monday night (November 23) saw the premiere of the musical "Fela!" While the show celebrates the excellent and revolutionary music of Fela Kuti (who pioneered Afrobeat and gave birth to the roots of funk), the big headlines have come from the high-profile producers. The show ran into financial trouble early, until the likes of Will Smith and Jay-Z stepped up to provide backing for what they believed was an important story that needed to be told. Jigga walked the red carpet for the opening of "Fela!" last night and expressed his enthusiasm for the late Nigerian superstar. "It's an inspiration, about the power of music. Here's a guy that's on the other side of the world who was influenced by James Brown, who takes this thing and makes his own sort of genre of music," Jay said. "I just think it's fascinating."

Jay wasn't the only star on the "Fela!" red carpet last night (he was joined by the likes of Smith, Ben Stiller and Jimmy Fallon), nor was he the only star hitting the street (Zac Efron and Amber Rose both showed up to the premiere of "Me and Orson Welles" in New York). And this morning, both Rihanna and Alicia Keys performed on early morning shows. Click here for these photos plus the entire "Spotted!" archive, which contains more than 350 candid shots of stars like Britney Spears, Madonna, the Jonas Brothers, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, Chris Brown and Shakira!

Want to celebrate one of the generation's definitive pop stars? Think you are a bigger fan than anybody who saw the Circus tour? Want to win a copy of her newest hits compilation? Then MTV News wants to hear from you! Yesterday, we launched our latest contest, which seeks to find the biggest Britney Spears fan in the land. Have you got a room full of Britney posters? Do you own a collection of Britney dolls styled like her various album covers? Are the words to "Womanizer" tattooed on your back? Then show us! All you have to do is make a video recording of yourself proving your Spears fandom and upload it to Your.MTV.com. Show us your memorabilia, make up a song, dance or simply argue your point. Make it fun, make it creative, but most of all, make it profoundly Britney-centric. The winner will score a copy of The Singles Collection (which features Spears' biggest hits, including "Toxic," "I'm a Slave 4 U" and "...Baby One More Time," as well as the new track "3") and, perhaps more importantly, will walk away with the title of "Biggest Britney Fan."

Want to get a look at your competition? Take a look at the entry below, which features plenty of manic dancing, an awful lot of Britney-flavored wallpaper and the introduction that Spears used during the Circus tour. Take a look, then get to work on your own video and upload it to Your.MTV.com.

After weeks of missed steps and shimmy shakes, the finals of "Dancing with the Stars" are here, and as noted last week, they could not be any more anti-climatic. In fact, the general tone of last night's episode suggested that everybody involved knew that Mya was going to grapevine away with the trophy, and there wasn't anything that Donny Osmond or Kelly Osbourne could do to stop her. After each pair made their way through two dances last night (plus the ill-advised "Megamix Challenge," which made for some hilarious and meaningless television), the sentiment hasn't changed.

What's impressive about Mya's performance on the show isn't just that she's generally flawless every week, but rather that she manages to impress every time she hits the dance floor. Not everything she has done belongs in the hall of fame, but she probably could have started coasting five or six weeks ago. But she still busted out quick, confident moves that showed off her style, her skill and her looks. Honestly, if this show doesn't lead to a career resurgence for her, it's impossible to think that anything else could.

While Mya has the championship wrapped up, that's not to say that Osbourne or Osmond were slouches last night. Even though he did some of his best dancing of the season last night, Osmond still seems slightly overrated, but he's a competent dancer who certainly acts the parts he's given awfully well. Meanwhile, Osbourne's run of head-turners ended last night, as her freestyle dance stumbled badly (literally). Still, she looked infinitely better than she did in, say, episode three, so she's got nothing to be ashamed of. And she wears those silly dance costumes better than any of the three contestants left, so she's got that going for her.

Perhaps Donny Osmond will score an upset with the help of some populist opinion. But if we're going by any sort of legitimate criteria, Mya will walk away the winner without much sweat. Of course, considering she was a pretty good dancer when she showed up, maybe she shouldn't have been eligible in the first place. Next season, they shouldn't recruit any musicians, because even a little bit of rhythm gives you a leg up on people like Tom DeLay.

What do you think? Who should win "Dancing with the Stars"? And who should be on the show next season? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
