Really, you should be listening to music every day, but thanks to Twitter, Monday has become the best day of the week to discover new songs, show some love to the tune currently dominating your iPod playlist and quietly judge the listening habits of your closest friends. Yes, it's #MusicMonday, one of Twitter's most enduring trending topic. Hence "MTV News' #MusicMonday," a weekly look at the songs we're obsessing about here in the Newsroom. Here's what's on our playlists right now.
Kyle Anderson, Newsroom Blog Editor: "There are three things necessary for a great R. Kelly song. The first is that it must take place in a club. Secondly, it must have a reference to Patron tequila (he mentions this stuff so much, you would assume he has an endorsement deal). Finally, it has to be totally, utterly absurd. 'Text Me,' from his new album Untitled, passes all three of those tests with flying colors. It's a great little slow jam about sexting, which makes it both catchy and topical!"
Jocelyn Vena, MTV News Pop Writer: "After being overlooked and not included in last week's Music Monday video despite including my pick, I decided not to be bitter and come back for more this week. My choice is "Who I Am," Nick Jonas' debut solo single (no, the Jonas Brothers aren't breaking up!) with his band the Administration. The song is Nick's usually pop-rock fare, but I can't help but think that the lyrics, about looking for love are some how inspired by his break-up with fellow pop star Miley Cyrus. Nonetheless, it's a catchy little ditty."
Steven Roberts, Production Assistant: "My pick is actually Britney Spears' '3.' I'm normally not a fan of Britney, but the beat on this song is great. Max Martin just kills it. It's just a really dope song. I have no clue what the song is about, but the beat is the most amazing thing about it. Britney's best music has been with Max Martin, and the video is kind of amazing too."
