Lady Gaga. At this point she's a sentence unto herself, and it's impossible to try to figure what she will wear to any awards show, on any given red carpet or stage. She has truly done it all. She's been Victorian. She's dressed like the Queen of Hearts. She's worn Muppets. She's sort of lit herself on fire. She's (fake) bled to death. She's not worn pants.

So, when the Grammy Awards kicked off on Sunday night the big question was: What will Gaga do?

Well, the night started with an intergalactic silver dress. Gaga had her own orbit. The dress, rumored to be by Giorgio Armani, was fashioned to look like a planet and even included it's own star-like accessory. She completed the look with very high platform heels and yellow hair.

Gaga embraced her basic aesthetic when she hit the stage to kick off the show with a awe-inspiring, theatrical reinterpretations of her songs "Poker Face" and "Speechless." Gaga wore a teal green, bedazzled leotard with intense shoulders. Her matching green booties completed the look along with pink sequins around her eyes. When Gaga reemerged during her performance, not only did she bring out Elton John (in bedazzled glasses and planetary earring), she was also covered in soot.

Sitting in the audience later on in the night, it looked as it Lady Gaga was paying homage to her hometown of NYC wearing a Statue of Liberty-esque headpiece and yet another sparkly outfit.

Ultimately, her entrance remained one of the top stories of the night, and though she didn't win any prizes during the show, she opened the show with a jaw-dropping performance.

11:27 In something of an upset, Taylor Swift scores the prize for Album of the Year. "I hope that you know how much this means to me," she says. She's excited about taking the prize back to Nashville. She dedicates the award to her dad and thanks her mom.

Snooki's a superstar! What else are we to make of the "Jersey Shore" star's turn as MTV News' guest correspondent at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (January 31)? Owning the red carpet with all the unabashed verve that has made her a household name, Snooks chatted up the very biggest names in the entertainment biz, from Justin Bieber to Miley Cyrus to Fergie. The lady was in serious demand all night — just look at this pic Katy Perry posted on her Twitter.

"You kissed a girl, let's kiss!" Snooki suggested to the singer.

It was just one exchange in what the reality star called the greatest night of her life. And we'll be bringing you all the highlights — Cyrus' revelation that she wants to be Snooki for Halloween, Bieber's confession that he's not allowed to watch "Jersey Shore" — very soon. For now, check out these photos of Snickers hobnobbing with the Grammy glitterati.

7:58 And with that, we are wrapped up. Who looked great and who didn't? Leave your thoughts in the comments and enjoy the show!

7:52 Rihanna has just arrived and very quickly we caught a glimpse of her high-cut white gown. It appeared to have feathers!

7:50 Ne-Yo still dressed like a gentleman: Black suit with silver lapel, fedora and a white tie.

7:47 Ryan Seacrest just told us that Britney Spears is there! But what is she wearing? It's apparently top-secret. Ms. Spears, why are you such a tease with your backdoor entrances?

7:44 Ciara looks kind of like a rock and roll Elvira in her Givenchy jumpsuit. There's a lot going on there.

7:40 Ke$ha is looking anything but Ke$ha-like. She's looking fresh and hip in her sparkly flapper dress and big dangly earrings. Also, she's wearing feathers in her hair. Deal with it.

7:38 For some reason, Slash is wearing a fedora and not a top hat. Way to disappoint!

7:33 Beyoncé rolls up in a nude-colored zip-front gown with bizarre and interesting geometric pattern detailing. It's tight and works for her. She is wearing no sparkles — this is history making!

Traveling with Snooki from "Jersey Shore" is always an adventure, but hopping in the car on Sunday morning on the way to her first red carpet hosting gig at the Grammy Awards was an epic trip.

After a last minute hair emergency that required a frantic run to a CVS for a curling iron and some fake eyelashes, Snooki hopped in the MTV limo (a Hyundi Elantra) with Sway and promptly offered him a Snickers bar a fan had pressed into her hand.

After he demurred, she begged for some house music and started bouncing in the backseat as she and Sway snapped a photo on her bejeweled phone for her twitter page. She then offered Sway some shimmery bronzer, which he politely passed on. "But it'll make your skin sparkle!" she said.

But Sway did offer some career advice. "Just enjoy yourself," he told her as she begged him to crank up Pitbull's "Calle Ocho" and spritzed herself with some citrus-y perfume. Then she pulled out a six inch piece of wood that had "Snooki" carved into it that a fan whittled for her. "It's supposed to be a pickle!" she explained.

The best part? When she flipped it over, it revealed a single carved "n." Huh? "They were gonna write Nicole, I guess. But then they didn't." When Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" came on the radio, Snooks wiggled in her seat, getting psyched about possibly meeting Usher, and hopefully, she said, making out with him. "He's single, right?" she asked. Oh, and in addition to signing her new deal for season two of "Jersey Shore," she mentioned that she just signed set up a meeting about a potential recording contract with a major label next week. "I'm going in the studio next week! I can't sing, I'll just talk sexy. I can make my own beats though." She typed her info into Sway's phone so they can hang out sometime, when she promised to introduce him to some real guidos.

"That would be nice," he said. "I'd like that. Where would we go?"

"My bedroom," she answered instantly. He gasped and they exited the car on their way to the carpet.

Following in the footsteps of other rock-and-roll luminaries such as Aerosmith, Sting, Metallica and a guy pretending to be Michael Jackson, Coldplay front-lad Chris Martin will lend his voice and likeness to an episode of "The Simpsons" airing Sunday called "Million Dollar Maybe."

The new episode sees Homer standing up Marge for a date, instead spending his evening winning the Springfield lottery jackpot. He decides to blow some of his newfound cash on gifts for the family, including front-row seats to a Coldplay show for himself and Bart. From their seats, they're able to speak with Martin, and Homer tries to talk his way onstage. Hilarious hijinks no doubt ensue.

Check out some behind-the-scenes footage of Martin doing his lines:

We can only hope that they're able to convince the band to play their first American hit single, "Yellow."

The week is over, but MTV News won't be gone for long. Be sure to tune in to MTV News this Sunday, January 31 for wall-to-wall coverage of the Grammy Awards (be sure to check the Newsroom Blog for live blog action of both the red carpet and the show itself). Before you prepare to cheer on your favorite picks for Album of the Year, check out any of the excellent posts that were tossed around the MTV Newsroom this week.

» The audition saga continued on "American Idol" this week, with Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne judging people in Los Angeles and Neil Patrick Harris and Joe Jonas wading through the talent in Dallas. Only one more week of auditions to go before things get super-serious, and there are already storylines developing and characters emerging, which should make for an extremely entertaining Hollywood Week.

» Speaking of Harris, we think that he should be offered Simon's chair once the angry Brit abdicates at the end of this season.

» In addition to her appearance on "Idol," Katy Perry managed to stir up a lot of attention on Twitter thanks to a feud with Dr. Luke about her bathing suit area.

» The iPad made its debut this week, and for Apple's sake, we hope it works out better than Virtual Boy or HD-DVD.

» Inspired by Lady Gaga's "Monster Claw," we took a look at some of the other musical gang signs used by the likes of Weezer, Jay-Z and Cobra Starship.

» "Avatar" broke the all-time box office record this week. You know what headline you'll never read? One about an album outselling Thriller.

Ah, the Grammys. A time for choreographers of overblown production numbers to ply their trade, for Neil Portnow to put all those "public speaking" courses to good use and for various talking heads to pontificate endlessly about "the music biz."

See, if there's one thing that's never in short supply at the Grammys, it's people willing to talk about the Grammys. Producers, writers, hilarious gap-toothed indie comedians — they're all available, ready to ramble on about just how great "Single Ladies" was. This is how the entertainment business runs, after all.

The only problem is, we waited too long and couldn't actually book any of them. We run a tight ship 'round these parts.

Needless to say, we were scrambling to find anyone to talk about the Grammys … when, suddenly, a thought dawned on us: "Why don’t we just use some of the many talented, telegenic and intelligent people who work in the MTV Newsroom! That way, we wouldn't have to pay them!"

It was a brilliant plan. So we assembled a crack team of Grammy experts: Pop writer Jocelyn Vena, producer Andrew Ross Rowe, production assistant Rya Backer, production manager (and resident Guido) Adam Stewart, with myself serving as the humble moderator. We got together, we debated just who would take home the Golden Gramophones, and this was the end result. They edited out a lot of the cursing. Anyway, here's what our Expert Grammy Panel had to say about Sunday night's show … for better, or much (much) worse.

Who will win the big prizes at Sunday night's Grammy Awards? Leave your votes in the comments!

"I talked to a couple of girls who worked in a strip club that we actually used for the set. One of them was really dynamic, really interesting and charismatic. The other girl was less willing to talk about stuff, which means she's probably more in touch with it than the girl that was willing to talk about it. She's in the middle."

-Actress Kristen Stewart, talking about the research for her role as a stripper and prostitute in the new film "Welcome to the Rileys," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this week. The film also stars James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo as a couple who recently lost their teenage daughter who take in the wayward Stewart. It'll be one of three high-profile films that the young actress appears in this year, as she'll not only open "Welcome to the Rileys" but also "The Runaways" (a biopic in which she stars as legendary rocker Joan Jett) and, of course, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" (which involves monsters of some sort).

Speaking of "The Runaways," Stewart impressed at least one person in her portrayal of Jett: Original Runaways Jett and Cherie Currie. "It was too much for me to handle, to be honest with you," Currie told MTV News. "For the first time, I got to see what it was like to be in an audience and look at the Runaways. It was that right-on. This all is so surreal! I went to sleep, woke up in this amazing dream, and I can't wake up. I don't want to wake up. And guess what? I don't have to!"

"The Runaways" opens in theaters on March 19, while "Welcome to the Rileys" should hit some time later this year.
