Perhaps the biggest headline-grabbing performance at Sunday night's (January 31) Grammy Awards was the stage time taken up by Beyoncé, who not only delivered a gorgeous version of "If I Were a Boy" but also ripped into Alanis Morissette's classic girl-rage hit "You Oughta Know." In fact, Beyoncé's rendition of the tune is just the latest in a line of excellent covers that pay tribute to Morissette and her breakout album Jagged Little Pill.
In addition to Beyoncé (who often drops "You Oughta Know" into her live sets during the breakdown of "If I Were a Boy"), Britney Spears has also embraced the tune. On a handful of dates on the Circus tour, Spears busted out the tune to the delight of the live crowd. Considering how choreographed the rest of her shows were, it's an especially raw performance for Spears, who mostly grabs the microphone and wails on the song.
Not all the covers have been as serious or faithful. For example, the Dan Band (the potty-mouthed group from "Wedding Crashers") have embraced the song liveproduced a sped-up, emofied version for a compilation called Punk Goes '90s.
But which one is superior? Did Beyoncé top the original, or does Britney Spears reign supreme? Vote in the poll below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
