"I'm out this b----. To all my fans, my real fans I really, really truly love you. I love you with all of me for real. Tonight's my last night. ... I came to the studio to get some work done. To all you artists out there, that should be a message or example. I came to work. For all the people that didn't know, this is the last time you gonna be seeing me live for a long muthaf---in' time. So watch: This is history."
-Rapper Lil Wayne, saying farewell to fans via a live streaming message on the Ustream page of Lil Twist, another MC on his label. Weezy was waving goodbye to his devotees in preparation for his jail sentence, which was supposed to begin today. But when Wayne showed up in court today, his lawyer announced that the Rebirth MC needed to undergo oral surgery and needed a few more weeks of freedom. The judge granted Wayne some time to recover from a cracked tooth and rescheduled his formal sentencing to March 2.
Since Weezy struck a plea deal for weapons possession charges back in October, he has been furiously at work banking guest verses, wrapping up Tha Carter IV and shooting videos for his just-released Rebirth (which is scheduled to debut just shy of the top spot on the Billboard album chart tomorrow). For now, Wayne is headed back to Miami for his surgery and will be due back in the same Manhattan courtroom on March 2.
