If you remember the origins of one of the film "Cool Runnings," you recall the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, where the inspirational story of the first Jamaican bobsled team came unfolded. Lone Ghanaian Olympian Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong is the 21st century equivalent: An unlikely nation competing in a sport dominated by countries where it, you know, snows. The "Snow Leopard," as he is known to his home nation, is part of just a small handful of Winter Olympians to ever hail from Africa.

With no funds whatsoever provided by his native land, Kwame relies solely on the philanthropy from private corporations and his original (and very cool) clothing line. Leopard Sports Limited is the brand that the he and the ski team from Ghana have developed to pave Kwame's road to his Olympic dream. But those spots aren't just for show — they carry a two-fold symbolism that is true to both his roots and charitable passions.

Embedded in the design are native Ghanaian symbols that represent faith, versatility and strength. The actual spots themselves tie into his own personal philanthropy with the funds Team Ghana has raised above and beyond the cost of the games. Kwame has become heavily involved in the conservation efforts of the Snow Leopard Trust located at the Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourne, U.K. Now that is truly an example of embracing the good will and awesome power of the Olympic spirit here in Vancouver.

This all comes from a huge Akon fan who spends most of his time training in his home land on skis designed to roll on grass. Not bad for a guy whose native land never sees a snowflake. And with this crazy lack of snow at the 2010 Winter Olympics, maybe those grass skis of his will come in handy!

In the days before skier Julia Mancuso won her silver medal on Wednesday (February 17) with a stellar downhill performance that was topped only by teammate Lindsey Vonn's odds-defying run, she met up with MTV News' very own Sway to teach him all the right and wrong lingo when it comes to talking to the skiers at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Apparently Sway wanted to look cool in front of the other skiers and Julia was nice enough to let him in on their secret language.

"So 'GS' stands for 'giant slalom,' which I guess has bigger turns than slalom," she explained to Sway, who eagerly took in the lesson from the silver medalist. "There's 'Super G,' I guess that's a code word for an event that's like GS, but a little faster."

And then she taught him the most important lesson of all: Do not call them alpine skiers! Okay! "And then I guess another thing, we always say skiing. We never say we're alpine skiers. Like we're ski racers and that's alpine skiing," she warned her student. "Yeah, don't be like 'Are you an alpine skier?' Be like 'You race downhill?'"

With the lesson learned, Julia also shared her secret to victory: "I guess I've always competed in everything and I love it and it takes a little bit of time management especially now with some canceled races," she said. "We're gonna be crammed into a smaller period of time, but I'm still stoked. I'm ready." As her performance on Wednesday proved, she was right.

Every day a multitude of stars wanders through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.

No matter what you may think of Fall Out Boy's music, there's one thing you can't take away from Pete Wentz: The dude knows how to throw a party. On Tuesday (February 16), Wentz hosted a runway show for Clandestine Industries, his own clothing line that features an extensive collection of fashion-forward T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, socks and accessories. Wentz himself made a rather unorthodox cameo during his own show. With his wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz looking on, the bassist was rolled out on a stretcher while wearing a Hannibal Lecter mask and a straight jacket. It's not a look that everybody can manage, but Wentz pulled it off. In addition to the Wentzes, the Clandestine show was also attended by stars like Joel Madden and Adrienne Bailon. All in all, it appears as though it was a killer night all around.

Plenty of other stars have made the rounds at various runway shows, including Justin Timberlake, Kelly Osbourne, Liv Tyler, Russell Simmons and Jessica Biel. Click here for these photos as well as the entire "Spotted!" archive, which features over 400 candid shots of stars like Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, Shakira, Mariah Carey, the Jonas Brothers, Kings of Leon, Jessica Simpson, Rihanna and Madonna!

Wednesday night's (February 18) nail-biting episode of "American Idol" featured a number of memorable moments, mostly surrounding the approval of early favorites like Andrew Garcia and Crystal Bowersox and the crushing thumbs down for Angela Martin (who was denied for the third time in her life). But the moment that had many people scratching their heads and pounding Twitter with confused exclamations was the appearance of Radiohead (in song, at least).

Early on in the show during a montage of contestants who were denied entry into the Top 24 (none of whom looked especially familiar), the song that "Idol" producers chose as accompaniment was Radiohead's "No Surprises" (from their breakthrough 1997 album OK Computer). It was a curious choice both because you never really expect to hear Radiohead songs on "American Idol" (or anywhere on television, really) and because the lyric content of "No Surprises" doesn't necessarily match up with the idea that people were being sent home.

Were we meant to think that none of these dismissals were "surprises"? None of the people in the montage were given any sort of back story, so how could we root for them either way? The rest of the song's lyrics (which open with the lines "A heart that's full up like a landfill/ A job that slowly kills you/ Bruises that won't heal")? Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of adding "No Surprises" to a montage of people being rejected came when anybody recalled the video for the song, which features singer Thom Yorke in some sort of torture device that periodically fills up with water.

As you can see, it's delightfully disturbing. Were the "Idol" producers subtly suggesting the rejects would also meet the same fate? (Probably not.)

This is hardly the first time a Fox show has gone with an odd but arty choice to score a montage. In 2004, the Boston Red Sox won the World Series, and when the broadcast of the final game was over, they played a montage of highlights that was set to Beck's "The Golden Age." The chorus was somewhat appropriate ("Let the golden age begin"), but the song itself is a suicide ballad — not exactly the most triumphant anthem for a group of victors.

Were you surprised to hear Radiohead on "American Idol" last night? What's your favorite inappropriate use of a song? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

There's a new twist in the ongoing saga Aerosmith saga. The beleaguered band has had problematic relations with lead singer Steven Tyler, leading to rumors that Joe Perry and company would be recruiting a new singer while Tyler got whatever help he needed. But the band has announced that they will play a series of European festivals in June, and they've promised that Tyler will indeed serve as the frontman. "I love performing as the lead singer in Aerosmith," Tyler said. "I am grateful for all of the support and love I am receiving and am committed to getting things taken care of."

Tyler entered a rehab facility in December, but a series of strange instances (including a visit to a karaoke bar and gig singing in a Home Depot) have created doubt among fans as to what Tyler's future with the band would be. Aerosmith have been through a lot as a band (drug issues, public apathy, that one time their drummer set himself on fire), but they're becoming dangerously close to joining the pantheon of bands who become known more for their personal drama than for the music itself. Who else is in that pantheon? Glad you asked!

Courtney Love/Hole
Love didn't invent the concept of band drama, but she certainly refined it to an art form. It's been six years since she released her debut solo album America's Sweetheart, and since then, she has gone to war with the former members of Nirvana, her old bandmates in Hole, the makers of "Guitar Hero," a credit card company and her own daughter Frances Bean Cobain. She is only now making her live performance comeback, though her heavily-bootlegged follow-up album Nobody's Daughter remains somewhere in limbo. But even if her new album is the new decade's version of Kid A, her personal drama will still eclipse the music.

The beleaguered British star, who first broke out with the Libertines and then formed Babyshambles, is known more for dating Kate Moss and taking photos of himself while doing drugs than anything he has ever recorded. Read More...

Lady Gaga isn't shy about sex. In fact, the pop star is pretty clear in her message: When her little monsters do it, they should be safe about it. Not only has she recently joined forces with Cyndi Lauper and MAC for their MAC AIDS Fund's VIVA Glam campaign (which donates 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of lipstick and lip gloss to the global fight against AIDS and HIV), she also has found another cause to call her own.

The sometimes kooky, always unforgettable Gaga is working with designer Jeremy Scott to let her fans know that they should wear condoms — especially ones designed by Scott in association with Proper Attire. "It’s not complicated, just a fashion statement," Lady Gaga said in a press release about the collaboration. "Everybody wrap it up with Jeremy Scott for Proper Attire condoms." The condoms come in three varieties (studded, ribbed and sheer), and proceeds from sales will benefit Planned Parenthood.

The condoms will be sold at Opening Ceremony stores and online at Opening Ceremony and Proper Attire. While Gaga has been known to wear clothes designed by Scott, it is still unknown if Gaga will take her own advice and use this particular brand of condoms in her private time. And, as much as we love to know everything about Gaga, this is one thing she's totally welcome to keep private.

I'd like to start this "American Idol" recap with a new game that I like to call "Porn Dialogue or 'Idol' Conversation?"

Man: Fancy seeing you here.
Woman: I like that word fancy. Fancy. You're very '70s. I like that about you. What is it with the '70s and you?
Man: All my idols are from the '60s and '70s. You know, Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, Morrison.
Woman: Did you get some of your moves from them? Where do you get those moves?
Man: I actually have a lot of rock DVDs and I watch a lot of old concerts.
Woman: Do you think you'll bring some of those moves if you stay?
Man: Whatever kind of moves you want, I'll give you.
Woman: Really? I think we wanna see those moves again, and you're gonna go through.

That was an exchange between Kara DioGuardi and semi-finalist Tyler Grady on Wednesday night's (February 17) "Idol." (Although it's probably also in a porno.) By the end of the breezy hour, we had learned the names of the remaining Top 24, as well as the role each contestant was being forced to play by the judges. In some cases, Simon, Kara, Randy and Ellen all but fed the contestants lines to ensure the "Idol" semi-finalists knew their place on the show.

Tyler Grady, you're a retro rocker who makes goofy faces! Crystal Bowersox, you're a troubadour outsider who is flabbergasted by the news that "Idol" gets 30 (and not three) million viewers! Keep talking about bringing music back to "its roots." (And speaking of roots, don't you dare touch those dreadlocks!) Katie Stevens, you're the sweet teenage girl who is doing it all for your sick grandma. Mention her often (and if you don't, Simon will).

Contestants relegated to impersonal "congrats" montages are out of luck. (I'm looking at you, John Park, Ashley Rodriguez, Siobhan Magnus, Michelle Delamor, Jermaine Sellers and Alex Lambert!) They will have to wait until next week's performance shows before they learn what talking points the judges will repeat each week.

I've never noticed such blatant talking points during the Top 24 reveal, so maybe that's why I suspect that the judges (and producers) had picked the top 12 guys and girls before Hollyweek was even over. How else to explain the inclusion of contestants like Janell Wheeler, Lilly Scott and Haeley Vaughn, who were all shown crashing and burning during their final performances? Deciding whether Janell's "Love Story" or Haeley's "I'm Yours" was more horrendous is like choosing between sticking your pinky toe in a blender or pouring salt in your eyeball. Scott's "Rich Girl" wasn't as terrible, but she did incur the wraith of accompanist Michael Orland. I think I need to make a T-shirt that says "INTRO! INTRO!" in his honor.

Haeley narrowly beat out Tori Kelly, a girl who shares a hair colorist with Amanda Overmyer and had the neat idea to re-imagine Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold" as a reggae number. I'm kind of flabbergasted that "Idol" turned down that "artistry" in favor of someone like Ashley Rodriguez, a competent if not wholly original singer.

Here's hoping Tori takes a page from Lacey Brown and tries it again next year. Read More...

The Olympic Village isn't the only place where athletes congregate, reside and catch all the Winter Olympic action. Members of the U.S. Snowboarding team are all shacking up together in a swanky West Vancouver pad where they harness their inner chi and prepare to kick some beaver tail up on the trails of Cypress Mountain.

I caught up with 20-year-old Halfpipe phenom and second time Olympian Elena Hight on Tuesday afternoon (February 16) in downtown Vancouver. Not only is the medal hopeful the first ever female snowboarder to land a 900 in competition (that's two-and-a-half rotations), but she did so at the tender age of 13. That's pretty amazing, especially for a girl who lived on the sunny beaches of Hawaii until the age of six. The blond boarding beauty and I chatted and she gave me an insider's view on what goes on inside the walls of what is arguably the coolest team house at the 2010 Winter Games.

Unique to most of the other teams, the U.S. Snowboarders are a solidified unit that travels the globe and competes nearly year round in events such as the World Cup and the X-Games. That sort of camaraderie has built them into a truly inseparable family unit. So what does a family do to stay focused and get pumped for some of the most exciting events in the games? They rock out to Elena's favorite jam: Miley Cyrus' appropriate American anthem "Party in the U.S.A." I was with Elena when she says "There really is no other team here at the Olympics like the [U.S.] Snowboard team." Can we please come hang with you guys? We like to think that we're like no others as well!

"I wanted to do a very, very forward performance, something that I felt was a true representation of the future. I re-inspired my song 'Telephone' into an acoustic, sort of jazz version, and then I went into a song called 'Dance in the Dark,' and I used a brand-new instrument that the Haus of Gaga has built named Emma."

-Fashion forward music icon Lady Gaga, talking to reporters following her show-stealing performance at the Brit Awards in London on Tuesday (February 16). The performance, which featured Gaga in one of her craziest wigs and most revealing outfits yet, was a tribute to late fashion designer and Gaga pal Alexander McQueen, who took his own life last week. "Thank you to Lee McQueen," Gaga said at one point during the performance. McQueen contributed a number of awesome outfits and pieces to Gaga's live shows and videos — most notably in the video for "Bad Romance," which featured McQueen's "lobster-claw" shoes.

Gaga's performance wasn't her only show highlight, as she also took home three awards. "I really did not expect to win all three tonight, or really any at all, so I'm just so excited," she told the BBC Radio 1. "Honestly, I'm never the one who wins all the awards, and I have never been the one to feel like the winner my whole life. I've always been an outsider, so I really felt so accepted tonight and like people really understand my music and my message and what I do." Gaga also said she would celebrate by getting "miserably drunk with all of my friends."

Every day a multitude of stars wanders through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.

We're deep in the thick of New York Fashion Week, for which MTV News has been on the ground catching up with stars like Kim Kardashian (stay tuned for more updates from Bryant Park). It has provided an ideal forum for stars to show themselves off, and it was a logical place for Nicole Richie to show off her latest piece of bling: An engagement ring. She just got engaged to longtime boyfriend Joel Madden of Good Charlotte. Rumors had circulated about the two of them finally getting hitched, but Richie spilled the beans to David Letterman during an interview that will air on "The Late Show" on Friday (February 19). Madden and Richie have been a couple for three years, and they already have two children together (two-year-old Harlow Winter Kate Madden and six-month-old Sparrow James Midnight Madden). Richie has experience in the fashion world: She has her own jewelry line, designed maternity clothes for A Pea in a Pod and was a guest judge on "Project Runway." Meanwhile, Madden is preparing for the release of his band's fifth album Cardiology.

Richie is hardly the only star to be photographed at New York Fashion Week. 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto, Whitney Port, Michell Trachtenberg and Kristen Bell have all made appearances as well. Click here for these photos as well as the entire "Spotted!" archive, which features over 400 candid shots of stars like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, the Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Ludacris, Diddy and Shakira!
