Last month, North Carolina metal band the Demonstration created some Internet sparks with their cover of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance." The brutal variation on Gaga's latest hit was so impressive that Gaga herself tweeted about it, which immediately gave the Demonstration the sort of exposure they weren't used to (the song has been streamed nearly 40,000 times at their MySpace page — pretty impressive for a group as heavy as they are).
When MTV News spoke to the band just after the cover was released, guitarist Jameson Vaught revealed that they were in the process of making a video to accompany the cover. Details were still being ironed out, but he did make a promise that "virtual strippers" would be involved somehow.
He was not wrong. In the just-premiered video for "Bad Romance," the men of the Demonstration eschew the futuristic, fashion-conscious trappings of Gaga's video for a more direct approach. In between scenes of the dudes grinding out the excellent tune are scenes of a woman sitting at a console and summoning virtual strippers (just like they promised). The women gyrate stretch, tease and gyrate for the duration of the song while the band looks on.
In the clip's best scenes, the Demonstration make a nod to the original "Bad Romance" video when singer Zachary Messick shows up in a close-up with those wide, saucer-like pupils that Gaga also sports. It's simultaneously funny and intense — not unlike the cover itself.
