After sifting through all of the videos and arguing about the finalists into the wee hours of the night, we could only come to one solid conclusion: 311 fans are so passionate, creative and devoted to their favorite band that it seemed absurd to reward just one. That is why the winner of MTV News' 311 Day contest is actually two people.
The inventiveness of Lauren Black and Dave Kosin could not be denied, which is why they are both going to serve at MTV News' special correspondents at 311 Day. The three-day event kicks off on Wednesday (March 10) in Las Vegas, and will feature a series of parties and fan get-togethers, as well as a concert from the band that promises to be truly epic. Lauren and Dave will be putting their journalistic wiles and 311 enthusiasm to good use, filing blogs, snapping photos and hosting videos on the ground in Vegas. And of course, they'll both get the chance to sit down with the band for an interview, so if there is anything you've ever wanted to know about the band, leave your questions in the comments for Lauren and Dave to pick up.
As we pointed out yesterday, the batch of videos fans submitted was truly great. That's not just MTV News talking — the band agrees. "I watched the videos and I was totally blown away by the creativity. And that's saying something, because our fans are so creative, and so original, that it takes a whole lot to blow me away now," 311 bassist Aaron "P-Nut" Wills told MTV News' James Montgomery. "Bands say this all the time, but we really have the most extraordinary fans. We expect a lot from them. Being a 311 fan is a full-time job for a lot of them, and that's what's so cool."
Lauren and Dave were both so thrilled about their respective victories that they immediately recorded new videos to express their excitement and to say thanks to everybody who supported them. Check those out below, and stay tuned for updates live from 2010 311 Day in Las Vegas!
