Man, we did not see that one coming! "American Idol" voters totally threw us for a loop this week when their failure to support Big Mike Lynche almost led to the strapping personal-trainer-with-the-voice-of-an-angel's ouster.
Yes, Lynche was saved thanks to a flashback to his cover of Kate Bush's (via Maxwell) "This Woman's Work," but none of us even had him on our radar when we made our predictions.
I was almost obnoxiously confident that timid teen Aaron Kelly would be a goner (I mean, check out the headline on yesterday's blog!), and MTV's own one-minute maestro Jim Cantiello agreed with me, while MJ's Big Blog honcho MJ Santilli thought it was lights out for Andrew Garcia. Those two were both in the bottom three with Mr. Lynche, but they escaped without a scratch.
(For the record, I had Kelly and Garcia joined Siobhan Magnus at the bottom, so I was close to a clean sweep on the bottom three picks, for whatever that's worth.)
But none of us guessed the shocking Lynche elimination and save, so our records all took a serious hit this week. Which means the ante is way up next week when we have to guess which two singers will pack their bags.
After six weeks of "Idol" forecasting (for those of you keeping score), here are the current standings.
Gil Kaufman: 8-of-12
Jim Cantiello: 6-of-12
MJ Santilli: 5-of-12
