Some weeks I get indignant about always being wrong with my "American Idol" elimination predictions. But this week I'm totally fine with it.
My fellow "Idol" experts and I all expressed confidence that the Round Mound of Samey R&B Sound known as Michael Lynche was going to get bounced this week because, well, he just kind of keeps doing the same thing. In a lackluster season (where the best you can reasonably hope for is that nobody falls down and smashes their face open on the "Idol" logo during the group number, spraying a blood fountain over the VIPs in the front rows), someone has to go, and with talent this marginal it kind of doesn't matter who it is.
That said, for some reason none of us picked funky glassblowing apprentice Siobhan Magnus as this week's victim. Don't get it twisted: I've been mystified by her persistence for most of the finals. In addition to arguing about why she didn't belong on the show with my father-in-law on a weekly basis, I've long tried to tell anyone who would listen that Siobomb's nails-on-a-chalkboard caterwauling isn't really singing but rather banshee screeching that makes Adam Lambert sound like divine opera diva Maria Callas.
I got so worked up at one point that for the eighth year running I came this close to launching a blog called "Seriously, Are We Even Watching The Same Show?" I couldn't have been the only viewer who found Magnus utterly charmless and outclassed, right? I guess not. Thank you, America.
So while I made the wrong pick, I'm more than a little excited to rid of this dead wood. After nine weeks of "Idol" forecasting (for those of you keeping score), here are the current standings. It's getting grim, but I'm feeling lucky about next week.
Gil Kaufman: 9-of-16
Jim Cantiello: 8-of-16
MJ Santilli: 7-of-16
