The plot thickens on the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Two weeks ago, Christina Aguilera joined the lineup as the first performer, and last week saw the unveiling of the official list of nominees. Now comes another big piece of news, as Katy Perry — she of the upcoming album Teenage Dream and the about-to-blow single “California Gurls” — will be performing when the show airs live from Los Angeles on Sunday, June 6 at 9 p.m. on MTV.
Perry will have a lot to live up to, as she has set her own personal performance bar awfully high. Ever since her debut One of the Boys broke out, Perry has made a number of memorable appearances at bevy of different award shows. She played with the house band at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards (where she famously wore that banana dress that she “unpeeled”), and she was so good that MTV Europe hired her to host the EMAs in 2008 and 2009 (the latter of which included an extended burlesque sequence and several racy costume changes).
But certainly her most famous moment at an awards show was at Los Premios, the Latin-American version of the Video Music Awards. Perry dressed up her stage and her band for a Quinceanera-themed performance of “I Kissed a Girl.” As the performance wrapped up, she rolled out a giant cake and took a belly flop directly into it, covering herself in frosting. She got a tremendous reaction from the crowd (especially when she lost her footing thanks to all that cake).
Can Perry top that iconic moment? What do you think she’ll pull out at the MTV Movie Awards? Let us know in the comments!
