Wednesday night's season nine finale episode of "American Idol" was full of drama, left-field collaborations and the occasional head-scratching moment. All three of those things came together during Dane Cook's appearance on the show. While the comedian was singing "Simon Says," his ode to departing judge Simon Cowell's greatest adjudications from his nine seasons on the show, former "Idol" reject Ian Benardo (who was there as a part of a contingent of legendary train wrecks from the past) crashed the stage and interrupted Cook's performance. While their collision course was not nearly as big a deal as the same sort of moment from the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye West's name was still invoked when Cook took to his official Twitter account to talk about the incident.
"If you missed it I got Kanye'd on 'American Idol.' Wild," Cook wrote. "Luckily at the end of the song. Simon loved it."
"That was not staged. Weirdo hijacked the song," he added. "Just glad he didn't hit me in the face with the mic or 'Americal Idol' would be 'American Beatdown.'" A few minutes later, he clarified a previous stance. "Weirdo = f---face," he wrote.
Later, Cook tweeted that the full song was available in its full version on iTunes, and he also posted a video that featured the original version of the song (which was cut back drastically because of time constraints). In the video, Cook also reveals a few behind-the-scenes details about his night on the "American Idol" finale (his trailer was adjacent to trailers for the Bee Gees and Hall & Oates, and songwriting partner Chris Newberg had an awkward conversation with Carrie Underwood at the after party).
