Arcade Fire, Slayer And ‘The Expendables’ Highlight This Week’s ‘Late Night Lineup’

It must have occurred to the staffs of many of the late night shows that the summer is nearly over, which is probably why so many vacations are cropping up. “The Late Show with David Letterman” is on hiatus for two weeks, while “The Tonight Show” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” will both be taking next week off. Still, despite the disappearances, there remain a handful of shouldn’t-miss guests who will be talking, joking and performing well past your bed time this week.

For example, “The Tonight Show” features the most eclectic cross-section of musical performers that show has seen all year, featuring Mike Posner (Monday, August 9), Meat Loaf (Tuesday, August 10), Los Lobos (Wednesday, August 11), the Whigs (Thursday, August 12) and Alejandro Escovedo (Friday, August 13). Host Jay Leno will also talk to “America’s Got Talent” judge Howie Mandel (Monday), “Twilight” and “Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World” star Anna Kendrick (Tuesday) and “The Expendables” star Jason Statham (Wednesday).

There are a few left field choices over on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” this week, including freak folk weirdo Joanna Newsom (Wednesday) and Sunset Strip rockers Buckcherry (Thursday). The Thursday episode should be especially great, as it also features Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham, both of whom star in the hotly-anticipated “The Expendables.” Jimmy Fallon will have conversations with Jason Bateman (Monday) and Michael Cera (Wednesday) and will also welcome Slayer (Tuesday) and the Walkmen (Thursday) as musical performers on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”

Indie fans will want to tune into “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Thursday, as he’ll have Arcade Fire on the show (fresh from their headlining spot at Lollapalooza). George Lopez will talk to a series of WWE wrestlers (including former “The Real World” star Mike “The Miz” Mizanin), while Chelsea Handler will have conversations with Alanis Morissette on Wednesday and Eva Mendes on Friday.
