"You know, I just did a lot of cocaine in the weeks leading up to it, just to keep my energy up so I could stay up and write material. It's a lot of work."
-Actor, comedian and 2010 MTV Movie Awards host Aziz Ansari, doling out tongue-in-cheek advice to Chelsea Handler, who will be hosting the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards when the show goes live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles this Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. Eastern on MTV. While on the set of his upcoming film "30 Minutes or Less," Ansari jokingly let Handler know what he did to get ready for hosting a live MTV awards show, which always prove to be thrilling and unpredictable.
For his part, Ansari took a different approach to getting himself ready to host the MTV Movie Awards back in June. "I've watched 'Twilight' a bunch. I've watched 'Avatar' 400 times," he told MTV News when we spoke to him before the show in April. "I've been stalking Daniel Radcliffe."
He also offered up some practical advice for Handler, who has admitted that she is a little bit intimidated by the show's high profile and length. "I would just say, if you're not using cocaine, start using it so you can really get your energy up and keep going and get stuff done because it's a lot of work," Ansari advised Handler. "But you'll have a lot of fun and it'll be a blast."
Handler, the host of her own late night talk show "Chelsea Lately" on E!, will run the show once the curtain rises on the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles this Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. Eastern. She'll be joined by some of the biggest names in music, including Eminem, Drake, Linkin Park, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Linkin Park, Paramore, Kanye West and dozens more.
The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET.
