Lady Gaga took home a total of eight awards at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, including the biggest prize of the night: The Moonman for Video of the Year for her absolutely stunning, instant classic clip "Bad Romance" (which was the first single from her second album The Fame Monster). When Cher announced Gaga as the winner, the 11-time-winner approached the stage wearing her now-infamous "meat costume" (complete with matching purse, which she asked Cher to hold while she gave her acceptance speech).
When she finally did get to the microphone, Gaga managed to cram more into her one minute on stage than perhaps anybody in the history of the VMAs (yes, even Fiona Apple). Fighting back tears, she began by thanking her fans, her director and the Haus of Gaga for helping her get to that point in her life and career. She then revealed to the audience that she promised herself that if she won Video of the Year, she would reveal the title of her next album (which is supposedly complete). The new album is called Born This Way, and Gaga also treated the audience to an a cappella snippet of one of the songs from the record (which invokes the title). Even though Gaga didn't do a full-blown performance on Sunday night (September 12), she still delivered something that left her admirers happy and satisfied. When we look back on the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, these will be the images we'll remember first.
