It was obvious that Lil Wayne's I Am Not a Human Being was going to grab some headlines when it came out. After all, it's a new album from a guy who is currently an inmate at Rikers Island Correctional Facility. But who would have thought that Weezy's new album — which is only available for digital purchase and only contains 10 tracks — would be absolutely stunning and would immediately be a contender for the title of "Best Album of 2010."
The greatness of the title track has already been addressed, but the rest of the songs on the album are an amazing look into Wayne's fractured mind. "Gonorrhea" is remarkable both for its use of wordplay and its sonic weirdness, while "I'm Single" manages to capture that hazy, weedy quality that Wayne always tries to infuse into his mixtape tracks (and somehow does this better on the new version than he did on the mixtape version — the presence of Drake probably helps). And then there's "Right Above It," which you should hear coming out of every car on the street in the next few days.
But then again, it's easy to get enamored with something that is brand new, and the year is still a few months short of being finished (with albums from Kings of Leon, Kanye West, Taylor Swift and others still to come). But ranked against the rest of the albums that everybody universally loves this year, is I Am Not a Human Being the best? Vote in the poll below and make your arguments in the comments!
