Last week, MTV News focused on a handful of high-profile albums that all happened to be hitting the streets at the same time. Record buyers had the option of grabbing Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday, Justin Bieber's My Worlds Acoustic, Ke$ha's Cannibal and My Chemical Romance's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, all of which came bundled with a ton of hype and a lot of positive buzz.
But with all that star power and past sales history, somebody had to come out on top. According to reports, West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is expected to displace Susan Boyle's The Gift as the top album in the country on the back of around 600,000 in sales. Nicki Minaj should be finishing a distant second to West with Pink Friday, and Justin Bieber will be nipping at her heels (which would be an especially impressive accomplishment, considering that Bieber's album came out on Friday — giving it four fewer sales days — and was only available at Wal-Mart). Ke$ha and My Chemical Romance are likely to finish a bit behind those top three, but it's quite possible that we could see five new albums in the top 10 of the Billboard chart, which would be quite the feat at this stage in the game.
