Spotted: Ricky Martin Heats Up New York’s Highline Ballroom

Every day a multitude of stars wander through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that’s why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.

Of all the pop trends that have blown up in the past few decades, the Latin explosion of the late 1990s has had surprisingly strong legs. Artists like Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias and Marc Anthony have all had long, rewarding careers full of huge hits, iconic videos and sold out shows. Back in the first wave, nobody was bigger than Ricky Martin, whose “Livin’ La Vida Loca” was as ubiquitous as a pop song could get, and over a decade later, Martin is still cranking out high-quality albums. His latest, Musica + Alma + Sexo, just hit stores this week, and to celebrate its release (and the Target-exclusive deluxe version of the album), Martin performed a scorching set at New York City’s Highline Ballroom. The adoring crowd certainly seemed to agree that Martin still has it.

Martin wasn’t the only star taking care of business, as Usher put on a typically dynamic show at the O2 Arena in London and Hilary Duff signed copies of her new book “Elixir” at the Hotel Costes in Paris.
