It was the heavy metal throwdown nobody thought would ever happen. Until it did. And in light of the rapturous reviews for the recent Big 4 gig in Indio, California, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax and poised to give East Coast metal heads a good thrashing.
As promised, the badass quartet will do it all over again with a September 14 gig at Yankee Stadium in New York.. Tickets go on sale this Friday (May 6), and though we’re super-stoked for another shot to see the one-of-a-kind meeting of the metal minds, it got us thinking about other awesome “Big Four” combos that could fill stadiums.
“The Pop Four”: Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson
The odds of JT and ex Britney sharing a stage are slim to none, but can you imagine what a major box office bonanza this tour would be. Not only would it reunite the three “New Mickey Mouse Club” vets (and washout Simpson), but it would represent the biggest concentration of late-’90s pop power on in the known universe.
“The Babe Four”: Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, Rihanna
These four ladies are doing just fine on their own, but combined they represent the ultimate in girl power headlining acts.
“The Baller Four” Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Eminem
Again, all headliners on their own — and Jay and Em have already done a test drive — but the potential for amazing collabos every night on this tour would be truly spectacular. Plus, can you imagine the arguments over who gets to close the show?
“The Frat Four”: Nickelback, Hinder, Disturbed, Seether
This meat-and-potatoes lineup has probably already teamed up for some hard rock festival somewhere, but can you imagine the sea of tramp stamps and Ed Hardy T-shirts that would pay good money for a tour by these beer-and-shot favorites?
“The New Four”: Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Taio Cruz
These four are among the hottest pop stars on the planet at the moment and the thought of Bieber and Swift possibly hooking up on a nightly basis to sing a duet is enough to make a tween’s head explode.
