Alicia Keys is one very, very proud New Yorker. And this New Yorker couldn't be more stoked that her home state passed the same-sex marriage bill late last week. Keys raved about the law at Madame Tussauds in Times Square, where her statue was being unveiled as a part of the Spirit of New York exhibit at the famed tourist attraction.
"I think that’s amazing," she said. "New York is that type of city … we are a city that needs to be progressive and I'm so proud that we did that. That’s important. I'm a fan of the fact that we passed that."
Keys is hardly the first celebrity, from New York or elsewhere, who has raved about the passing of the legislation, which provides same-sex couples the right to marry. Everyone from Lady Gaga and Katy Perry to Jennifer Aniston have opened up about the historic law.
"It's great! I thought it was unbelievable," Aniston told MTV News over the weekend. "So exciting in this time and that it happens to be Gay Pride weekend. What a great weekend."
But it was Jason Sudeikis who had some concern for Jay-Z, and by default Keys, now that the bill has been passed. He joked, "The only person I feel bad for is Jay-Z, because he's going to have to write a new verse for that song, 'Empire State of Mind,' because New York just got a little more kick-ass!"
We're sure if you asked Alicia and Hova nicely, Jason, they would love to update the tune!
