Marcus Mumford might have more than his band Mumford & Sons' rising success to be thankful for in 2011, as the singer reportedly popped the question to his actress girlfriend, Carey Mulligan, over the weekend.
UK’s The Sun reports that Mumford asked his rumored bride-to-be while at the ritzy Babington House in Somerset, where she supposedly showed off her new bling to guests. “She was wearing a beautiful ring and didn’t seem to mind who saw it,” reported an onlooker.
Love has taken hold of the couple fast – the pair have only been dating for around five months. Carey – also a star on the rise with her Best Actress Oscar nom for "An Education" last year – had just broken things off with her old beau, Shia LaBeouf, a few months prior to meeting Mumford, who himself had just become single after breaking up with fellow folk singer Laura Marling.
There is much to be learned from the historical relationships between actors and musicians. Sometimes it’s a match made in heaven, other times it’s a countdown to extinction. Will it last between these lovebirds? Maybe … if they take our advice.
“Be Weary of the Wild”
Many ladies have an unforgiving fascination with bad boys (I’m looking at you, Heather Locklear and Denise Richards). These women can’t get enough of their boyfriend’s tattoos and piercings, but fail to realize the rock and roll beast is pretty tough to tame. Baywatch babes Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra learned heartbreak the hard way when things didn’t work out with their lovers, Tommy Lee and Dave Navarro, respectfully. I mean, who could keep those two dues on marital lockdown?
“Separation of Spouse and Career”
Most couples like their personal space, while others would leap at the chance to work with their spouse on the daily. Well, when it comes to the marriage of an actor and a musician, we think it’s best to just do your own thing. Gwyneth Paltrow, despite having a decent voice and appearing on Glee, has never recorded a duet with her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin. Remember when J.Lo was Ben Affleck’s main squeeze and even appeared in her new music video? Yeah, things didn’t exactly work out for them, did they?

At the Minneapolis, Minn., stop on their record-shattering "360 Tour," U2 dedicated “Stuck In A Moment You Can’t Get Out Of” to the late Amy Winehouse, who passed away Saturday at the age of 27. "We wrote this next song for Michael Hutchence, but you will understand tonight if we play it for Amy Winehouse,” Bono said before playing the song.
“Stuck In A Moment” was written for Hutchence, the lead singer of INXS who committed suicide in 1997. The singer was a close friend of the members of U2.
The gesture is the latest of many that have flooded in since Winehouse’s passing. On Saturday night, just hours after the news broke, M.I.A. released the demo “27” on her Soundcloud in the “Back to Black” singer’s honor. “I recorded this song B4 vickileekx and never put it out,” M.I.A. said on Twitter. “It's a unfinished demo. R.I.P A.M.Y."
These tributes to Winehouse join a long tradition of musicians expressing their sadness over the death of friend or loved one through song. Read on for some of the best. Read more...

Katy Perry was thrilled to receive nine nominations for the 2011 MTV video Music Awards, but couldn’t help lamenting the absence of some of her good friends from the ballot.
So, who would she have included? "I do miss my RiRi, (s&m) Swifty, (back to dec) Kesha (blow) & Robyn (every vid!) Jessie J, (pricetag) in the/any categories. #ohmanitstough," she tweeted.
She's right, narrowing a year's worth of great videos down to the best of the best is a tricky business. So we asked you, dear readers, which of Katy’s picks you thought deserved a bit more recognition than they received. We got 39,116 votes in our poll. Check out who topped the list, after the jump. From Hollywood Crush:
It was a busy few days for the MTV News crew covering 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, but fortunately our hours of "hard work" constituted chatting up the sexiest and most buzzworthy stars in the biz (meaning it's not really that hard at all).
With scrumptious scoop flying left and right all weekend, there's a chance something really great may have passed you by, so here's a rundown of our favorite interviews from the Con:
"The Amazing Spider-Man" Star Andrew Garfield
He won our hearts when we asked about the body type required for his scrappy superhero. Turns out he put a lot of effort into convincing director Marc Webb to not have Spider-Man flaunt Captain America-sized muscles.
"I love the idea of a skinny guy beating the crap out of big guys, just as a personal fantasy fulfillment for myself," he said with a laugh. "I think a lot of skinny guys and skinny girls like me are going to hopefully watch a skinny guy in a red and blue suit beating the crap out of big guys and really enjoy that."

Yesterday, New York became the sixth and largest state in the country to recognize same-sex marriage. The first weddings took place just after midnight on July 24, just one month after the state passed marriage equality legislation. From Niagara Falls, where the first ceremony was performed, to Manhattan, where 659 couples picked up marriage licenses, it was a historic and celebratory day.
So it’s no surprise that entertainers like Ricky Martin and NKOTBSB’s Jonathan Knight took to Twitter to share their excitement over the newly enacted legislation. Martin and Knight both added GLAAD's “I Love New York” button to their Twitter photos in recognition of marriage equality.

As fans around the world continue to mourn the death of singer Amy Winehouse, the circumstances that led to her untimely passing are beginning to come to light.
While we still don’t know what killed Winehouse, we know that she was given the “all-clear” by doctors at a check up on Friday and was found unresponsive at her home in London’s Camden district by her bodyguard at 4PM on Saturday. “She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to sleep, and when he went to wake her he found she wasn't breathing," Winehouse’s U.K. representative Chris Goodman told TMZ. “He called the emergency services straight away. He was very shocked. At this stage no one knows how she died. She died alone in bed."
Winehouse leaves behind a legacy as a brilliantly talented but endlessly troubled star. The problems started not long after the release of her breakthrough album “Back to Black.” Following several run-ins with the law and a leaked video of the singer smoking drugs, her Visa was denied and she was unable to attend the 2008 Grammys, where she scored five wins, including Record and Song of the Year. A flurry of assault and drug charges, as well as turmoil in her personal life, followed. She spent much of 2009 and 2010 in St. Lucia trying to clean up her act and refocus on her music. Things had looked promising for the star by early 2011, as she booked a European tour and claimed to be working on a new album.

Britney Spears has been teasing an exciting announcement she’ll make tonight at 6PM on Facebook. While we’re excited about the prospect of more international concert dates (which is rumored to be what the announcement will actually be about), we thought it would be fun to speculate other announcements Britney could make that would drive us wild.
“Crossroads 2”
Since the movie’s release in 2002, fans everywhere have been itching for a sequel. (Or maybe just us?) Cast members like Zoe Saldana (“Avatar”) and Justin Long (“He’s Just Not That Into You,” “Going the Distance”) have gone on to make it big in the industry, so a sequel could be bigger than ever. Plus, we’d get another fun road trip and maybe even some great karaoke tunes.
She’s engaged!
Are they or aren’t they going to walk down the aisle? Maybe after her tour wraps, Britney and former agent Jason Trawick, who have been together since 2009, will finally settle down together. Britney, no stranger to weddings, teased to US Weekly she’s not saying “never” to another marriage. Only time will tell on this one.
Workout Video
Britney proves just how miraculous the body can be. Just like every female out there, Britney’s body has gone from pretty hot to pretty not – except unlike every female out there, Britney’s every move is photographed for world to see. Yet, she always manages to get back in shape when it counts. Even when people doubt another slim-down, Britney proves everyone wrong with her latest transformation. It’s been reported that a personal gym is transported to each of Britney’s shows. Wouldn’t it be great to learn her workout regimen? Who wouldn’t want to do squats and lunges in perfect harmony with Britney?

I've been to 50 shows, maybe 100, where I was assured I was seeing the next big thing. And most of the time, sadly, I was seeing something, but it wasn't big and it was hardly a thing.
But this one felt different.
There was something off about Amy Winehouse when I first laid eyes on her in March of 2007. Here was this latest British next big thing, a truly buzzed-about artist with a larger-than-life persona who shuffled out on stage and looked like a hyper-realized version of 1,000 other hipster chicks at that year's South by Southwest music festival in Austin.
From the big, retro gold doorknocker earrings, to the towering 1950s beehive with the blonde streak up front, the gold anchor necklace pendant, pin-up girl bicep tats and cat-eye mascara, Winehouse made an impression, sure.
But she was intensely shy, even awkward, on stage. That is, when she finally got to the stage.
She, of course, showed up horribly late, an almost unforgivable sin at SXSW, where showcases are run like clockwork. Her voice was as promised, a massive instrument, deep and rich, well-lived in for a woman in her early twenties. Too well lived-in, if I'm being honest. But that's what made her stand out. The whole wise-beyond-her-years effect. Though, looking back (and the thought might have occurred to me even then), I'm not sure it was wisdom that had rung those miles up.

As the massive heat wave burned on in New York City, many may have been too concerned to trek outside to watch Cee Lo Green perform on “Today” this morning in Rockefeller Plaza.
However, Cee Lo’s die-hard fans knew they couldn’t miss the live show spectacle. “If you love this town and came early to have a good time, that’s exactly what we’re going to do,” he told the cheering crowd. Cee Lo and his band didn’t disappoint as he swayed along to the music and hyped up his audience. Dripping with sweat but filled with energy and excitement, the crowd was amped to sing along to hits like “F**k You,” “Bright Lights Bigger City” and “Crazy.”
Cee Lo sported dark shades and rocked the stage dressed in an all-white ensemble. His all-female band also came dressed for the occasion, preferring to ditch their shirts and expose their black bras underneath their white jackets. Cee Lo has been on top of his game lately, including numerous ventures like coaching on “The Voice”; starting his own talk show on Fuse TV, titled “Talking to Strangers”; preparing for his upcoming Las Vegas stint “Lo Barachi,” which he announced to Matt Lauer during their brief interview, and promoting his 2010 album, The Lady Killer.
Cee Lo was recently nominated for a 2011 Video Music Award for Best Male Video for his single “F**k You,” but faces stiff competition from Justin Bieber (“U Smile”), Kanye West (“All of the Lights”), Eminem (“Love the Way You Lie”) and Bruno Mars (“Grenade). Read more...
