Britney Spears

Having given "Till The World Ends" a Punjabi breakdown, Britney Spears is once again having Bollywood and Indian culture infused into her latest single, "I Wanna Go." This time, vocalist Sonu Nigam and DJ Lloyd add a new twist to the song.

“So excited about having Sonu on 'I Wanna Go.' His vocals add such a different feel which I love!" the pop tart said in a statement about the track. "Watch out Bollywood, it's Britney and Sonu!"

So, what does it sounds like? The beat is kicked up, the song fades in and out and Sonu's vocals dance around, as Indian instruments muss up the track in a fun and unexpected way. The song's original sparseness plays well with the over-the-top nature of the Bollywood remix, which was posted to the Desi Hits website.

For those who need a little background, Sonu is an Indian singer, who has released albums in India and sang in Bollywood films. “Sonu adds magic to this track and it’s always wonderful to work with such an incredibly talented artist," Anjula Acharia-Bath, CEO of Desi Hits, said in a statement. He's been working with Spears' team on these remixes. Read More...

Katy Perry

Little Monsters the world over are up in arms over a photo Katy Perry posted to her Twitter that features the “Firework” singer as a mermaid. Why so serious? Well, we’ll let gagamonster96 explain it for us: “Lady Gaga announces that she's going to be Yüyi the Mermaid in her next video. Katy Perry goes on, and copies her.”

Gaga performed “The Edge of Glory” in mermaid attire on Le Grand Journal in late June and has alluded to being a mermaid in the video for her next single. “I will also say that Yuyi is in incubation, for anyone who knows what that means. Yuyi may just be born in the next video,” Gaga said recently on a Taiwanese talk show. “I don't want to ruin the surprise! It's very unexpected. Working on the video now.”

Interestingly, there were rumors she would appear as a mermaid in her “Edge of Glory” video but that the concept was scrapped – along with whatever footage director Joseph Kahn shot – in favor of the pared-down, Gaga-directed video that was released in June. Gaga still hasn’t announced what her next single will be nor when the video will be released.

Laurieann Gibson, Gaga’s creative director, took to her favorite platform, Twitter, to deliver a sly dig at Perry, saying, “even though they try to steal a tail theres only 1 Mermaid, Swim On!”

The tension is what it is and we’re not going to say too much about it. Except this: Getting upset when one pop star “rips off” another is silly for a number of reasons but mostly because Madonna always did it first. Madonna filed her mermaid trademark in ’89 when she shot her “Cherish” music video. Read More...

Some of the biggest artists in music are on the road this summer, and with the season stacked, we in the MTV Newsroom were curious who you were planning to check out. We asked, you responded and the results are … well, they’re pretty much exactly what we’ve come to expect when we ask anything and include the words “Britney” and “Spears” among the possibilities.

In our poll of who you want to see on tour this summer, Spears took the crown – just like she did when we asked what your favorite album of the year (so far) and like she nearly did when we wondered about your favorite song (she fell to Lady Gaga by this much).

Over 56 percent of those polled said they intended to check Spears and Nicki Minaj out on the Femme Fatale tour. Spears’ closest competitor was another pop diva, Katy Perry, whose California Dreams tour we saw a few weeks ago and really enjoyed. So yes, you should probably see her too – especially if you like the color pink. Her show includes a lot of pink things, from cotton candy clouds to a Candy Land-like set.

And despite the poll results, we have another recommendation. We were horrified to learn that no one – as in zero percent of those polled – is planning to see My Morning Jacket. This is a travesty, we say! We were at Bonnaroo in 2008 for MMJ’s epic three-hour set and want to warn that if they come to your town and you don’t check them out, you may be committing a crime against music. Just sayin’!

It isn’t exactly a secret that Beyoncé shies away from talking about her personal life, including her marriage to Jay-Z. But that doesn’t mean the pop megastar won’t bring life’s most intimate moments to life with her music. In the visual for her latest single, “Best Thing I Never Had,” Bey takes fans behind the doors of her dressing room and off to her wedding ceremony as she shows off her stunning figure in a lacy lingerie get up and an elegant princess gown.

While King B isn’t the first to head to the alter for a music video, she’s clearly one of the calmer video brides. MTV Newsroom appreciate seeing a happy-go-lucky wedding actually pull through, but for those who enjoy a little more drama, take a look at our list of pop stars who have caught a bad case of the runaway bride syndrome.

Mariah Carey, “We Belong Together”

In the video for her mega-successful sing-a-long ballad “We Belong Together,” Mariah preps for her special day as she undecidedly belts her heart out about a broken relationship. Walking down the isle, the big-voiced diva catches a glimpse of a mysterious man (played by Wentworth Miller), who gave her a rose in her previous bachelorette party-themed video for “It’s Like That.” Mimi deals with a love struggle as she’s caught between choosing her husband-to-be (Eric Roberts) and the other man. As expected, the songstress makes a dramatic exit by running away from the alter and into the arms of the latter.

Harry Potter

From Hollywood Crush:

This weekend, the final installment of the Harry Potter franchise hits theaters, marking the end of an era for millions around the world who grew up with the brave boy wizard. The series handles some weighty issues, such as good versus evil and the nature of death, but Dumbledore constantly reminds Harry that the greatest magic of all is love. The professor correctly hypothesizes that Voldemort can never win, since he is incapable of this most human emotion.

In honor of the magical power of love, our friends at Hollywood Crush are taking a look back at some of our favorite couples from the Harry Potter series.

Ron and Hermione

Though Ron and Hermione got off to a rocky start, they became fast friends and, throughout their years at Hogwarts and beyond, a little something more. One of the film series’ most highly anticipated moments still awaits us: Ron and Hermione’s kiss! If it’s anything like the passionate embrace that Horcrux Harry and Hermione shared in Deathly Hallows: Part 1, then we won’t be disappointed. "I ended up pouncing on Rupert [Grint]," Emma Watson told us about filming the scene. "After the first take he was like, 'Whoa there! Where did that come from?' I was like, 'Sorry!'"

Rihanna’s weekend show in Dallas was canceled mid-show when a fire broke out above the stage after a pyrotechnic unit set a chair on the catwalk above the stage ablaze. Fans initially thought the fire was part of the show, only realizing the flames were not intentionally set when smoke began to fill parts of the American Airlines Center arena and the lights came on. Dallas firefighters evacuated the arena and no injuries were reported.

After the show, Rihanna tweeted her displeasure with having to end the show and promised to return to the Texas city, saying, “DALLAS!!! We set the stage on FYAH tonight!!! LITERALLY!!! I'm so pissed, I was havin so much fun wit yall too!!! I gotta come back man!!”

The (literally) show-stopping event got us thinking about other concerts that have come to an abrupt end after the show was already underway. It takes a lot to stop a large-scale pop show dead in its tracks. Here are a few examples. Read More...

Last week we asked you two questions, and the answer to both was Lady Gaga’s “Heavy Metal Lover.” “Lover” took over 51 percent in our poll of your favorite songs of 2011 (so far), and now we can reveal the track also bested “Scheiße,” “Marry the Night” and “You and I” as the song you’d most like to see be her next single.

“Lover” left its competition in the dust, scoring nearly 50 percent of the vote. “Scheiße,” Gaga’s thumping meditation on how powerful women are treated by society, came in second with just over 36 percent.

Our personal choice, “Marry the Night,” came in a distant third, with 10 percent, and the Mutt Lange-produced rock ballad “You and I” brought in only 1.4 percent of the vote. “Marry the Night” was inspired by Gaga’s hometown of New York City and was originally intended as the first single from Born This Way before it was scrapped in favor of the title track. “You and I” is a fan favorite piano ballad-turned-arena anthem that Gaga and Lange transformed with claps and a guitar solo by Queen’s Brian May. She’s been performing the song, which is said to be about her relationship with longtime on-off boyfriend Luc Carl, live for the last two years.

Was Lavo New York ready to do the Dada this morning? As regularly is the case for New York's most exclusive nightclub, by midnight, beauties and ballers alike had amassed in front of gatekeeper Cristian Achirili's door in pursuit of bottles and big-tune bangers. Whether they had planned on it or not, dance-music DJ/producers Dada Life ended up driving models and city tycoons to tear the roof off of the Strategic Group's New York dance-music mecca — almost literally.

As you can see from the photo, Dada's Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom were welcomed with open arms even before they took to the decks with silver glittered "DADA LIFE" letters firmly affixed to the ceiling. That changed very quickly ...

After DJ Jeffrey Tonnesen spun a pretty stellar opening set, which included David Guetta's bombastic unreleased gem "Bass Line" (off his electronic disc Nothing but the Beat double album), the Swedish titanic twosome brought the ruckus, launching into their 2010 single "Just Bleep Me" (sampling Benny Benassi's "Satisfaction"). The room of beautiful drink sippers flipped into a frenzy, with pumping fists banging around Dada Life's customary large inflatable bananas and champagne bottle. By Quintin's edit of Afrojack and R3hab's "Prutataa," just the third song, all that was left of the ceiling fixture spelled "IFE." The mob had its way with the rest.

Friday (July 8 ) is the 41st birthday of one Bek David Campbell, the multitasking musician/producer/artist/amateur Gutenberg better known to the world as Beck. This is somewhat shocking for several reasons, chief among them the fact that he doesn't look a day over 12.

And though his musical output has dwindled some in recent years (aside from, you know, his ongoing "Record Club" series and production work for Thurston Moore and Steven Malkmus ... like we said, dude's a multitasker), we here in the MTV Newsroom remain unabashed Beck fans, and we anxiously await the day he returns with the follow-up to 2008's moody Modern Guilt. Or, better yet, the spiritual sequel to '99's Midnite Vultures.

In fact, the mere mention of those two albums — and the musical disparity between them — pretty much sums up why we love Beck so much. He truly is a man for all seasons (and styles), capable of churning out ethereal fare like "Chemtrails" one minute, ass-flaming party starters like "Sexx Laws" the next (to say nothing of "Debra," the white-boy slow jam to end all white-boy slow jams). Simply put, there isn't a genre out there that he hasn't tried his hand at, or, for that matter, totally made his own.

So in celebration of Beck's birthday, here's a look back at his epochal 1994 appearance on "120 Minutes," where he tears up a finger painting included in a first-pressing copy of his A Western Harvest Field By Moonlight LP (a shame, since it's probably worth big bucks now), destroys a telephone and plays some noise on his trusty portable tape recorder ... and that's just in the first segment. So, enjoy, and make sure to send Beck a happy birthday message. We're sure he'll enjoy reading it ... wherever he is these days.

Space, it really is the final frontier. And with the Space Shuttle Atlantis due to blast off for the last-ever shuttle mission into the heavens on Friday morning (unless Mother Nature gets in the way), we were feeling all nostalgic about songs that glorify the deepness of the cosmos.

When they're not focused on penning songs about their sexual conquests, cars or whatever "Bohemian Rhapsody" is about, rock stars have often looked to the heavens for inspiration. Some have returned to that topic over and over again to great effect, including the original cosmic cowboy, David Bowie, who has written some of the best galaxy tunes of all time with "Space Oddity," "Ashes to Ashes," "Five Years," "Life on Mars" and "Starman."
