From MTV Movies Blog:

In a nutshell, "50/50" is movie about an otherwise average 27-year-old guy named Adam who gets diagnosed with cancer, and what happens to his life and the people in it when faced with 50/50 odds of survival.

Unlike most of the generic, forgettable fare that Hollywood churns out each year, this film is something special. With an all-star cast including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anna Kendrick and Anjelica Huston, you will actually care about the characters, get swept up in the story and actually feel something when you walk out. "50/50" is one of the best movies I've seen this year, and here are a few reasons why it will be one of your favorites as well. Read More...

On Thursday evening, Adele's somber — and frankly, quite stunning — "Someone Like You" video premiered, and once we had finished wiping the tears from our eyes, we quickly realized that director Jake Nava really deserves a video Oscar or something.

Not only did he deliver a video that perfectly matches the song's heartbroken, haunted feel (not an easy feat), but, whether you know it or not, the British-born Nava has also been responsible for some of the greatest pop clips in recent memory, only adding to a resume that stretches back to the early '90s (and includes work for everyone from System of a Down to the Spice Girls).

And sure, while the eye-catching clips being churned out by Lady Gaga tend to grab the headlines (since, you know, it's Gaga), what makes Nava's work so impressive is that, rarely, if ever, does he make the same video twice. In fact, if you didn't pay attention to the credits, you'd probably have no idea who was responsible ... he's not only one of the most malleable directors in the business, he's also one of the most unassuming, and really, that's what a good director should be. The video is about the artist in front of the camera, after all.

So, in celebration of a man who doesn't get the credit he deserves, we've compiled a list of Nava's most iconic music videos. Because, as you'll soon learn, while you may not know his name, you most certainly know his work. Read More...

When Jason Derulo stopped by the MTV Newsroom this week to talk about his new album, Future History, we couldn't resist playing a little game of Two Truths & A Lie with the singer.

For those unfamiliar with the popular campfire game, a player states two facts and one lie about themselves and the other players have to guess which one of the statements is the lie. The lie shouldn't seem any more absurd than the facts – but if you've had some out-there experiences, this is a good place to share them to throw the other players off.

Derulo was both a good sport and the perfect player. The "It Girl" singer focused all three of his statements on food and kept things a little weird but not crazy. Are anchovies one of his favorite foods? Did he chow down on four bananas a day as a broke college student in NYC? Or did he go on a fitness kick that involved "salmon shakes" – a yummy blended mix of salmon, water, vinegar, hot sauce ("if you're feeling crazy") which he'd microwave for 30 seconds to make it more palatable? Check out the video below to see if you can read his body language and find out the answer after the jump.

We're officially one week into fall and you know what that means. The return of the Pumpkin Spice Latté at Starbucks! No, it doesn't mean that. (Except, yes, yes it does.) What it really means is that your favorite TV shows are back, movies are going to start getting better (although it was a pretty solid summer) and some of music's biggest stars are prepping big fall albums.

Nearly every week for the next several months brings a major release. Coldplay will drop its first record since 2008 in October … on the very same day that the original "American Idol," Kelly Clarkson, releases her much-anticipated "Stronger." (That's gonna be a big week, huh?) Also on the fall menu: new albums from Rihanna, Florence + The Machine, Drake, Evanescence, Mary J. Blige, Joe Jonas, Rick Ross, Nas and Wilco.

Which albums are you most looking forward to? Vote in our poll after the jump! Read More...

In the words of Green Day, “summer has come and past,” and tonight as midnight strikes we’ll be humming the melody of the band’s second highest U.S. selling single, “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” On the surface, we completely understand the mellow-sounding track; it’s that awkward month between summer break and apple picking when the weather is totally bipolar.

But like me, you might have mistaken its meaning. Because of the song’s release date, it’s most commonly thought to be about the events of 9/11, but band member Billie Joe Armstrong clarified the song was actually written as a memorial to his father, who died of cancer in September 1982.

Later, the song was dedicated to the deceased guitarist Johnny Ramone of the Ramones, who died in September 2004.

The song eventually because a tribute to victims of Hurricane Katrina and was performed live with U2 at the first game played after the hurricane in the Superdome in New Orleans.

In honor of today’s timely meaning of the song, we made a list of ten fun ways to commemorate: Read More...

Christina Aguilera and Maroon 5 have struck gold with their sexy, chart-topping throwback jam, "Moves Like Jagger." The song, which features the vocal stylings of Xtina and her "The Voice" co-judge, Adam Levine, has really taken the world by storm. This week marks its fourth week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

"The first time I heard the song I loved it," Aguilera told MTV News in a statement. "The song has elements from the '60s and '70s, yet is so current and unique." And it seems that audiences and fellow artists agree. Up-and-coming MC Mac Miller has remixed the track, proving that the song has some legs and isn't going anywhere.

So how does it rank against Xtina's other collaborations over the years? Let's take a look back at some of the more memorable ones. Read More...

As "America's Next Top Model" kicked off its all-stars season, Tyra Banks was on the hunt for a new permanent judge on panel. The first few episodes of the season feature guest judges like Ashlee Simpson and Nicki Minaj.

In the previous 16 cycles, "ANTM" audience members have seen a slew of different judges in the attempt to replace the infamous Janice Dickinson. Banks has experimented with former models Twiggy and Paulina Porizkova, both of whom left the show after a few seasons. The most recent judge was Andre Leon Talley, editor-at-large at Vogue.

None of these judges were able to reproduce the magic of "ANTM's" glory years with Dickinson being the loud-mouthed, blunt and often-times slightly crazy judge. Watching Dickinson berate a girl for her weight or dance around ridiculously during the panel made for some damn good television. And now here comes Kelly Cutrone, PR queen. We all remember her from "The Hills" and "The City" yelling at her interns and employees like it was her job (I guess it kind of was). After those series, Cutrone scored a show on Bravo called "Kell on Earth." If Tyra is trying to re-ignite the drama in her show, Cutrone seems like a good contender, with her foul mouth and steely hard-ass demeanor. We can definitely count on Kelly not to sugar coat any of her opinions.

Here are 3 reasons why Cutrone is the perfect fit for "ANTM." Read More...

Bieber Girl

During last night’s “X Factor” audition episode, 14-year-old Justin Bieber superfan Drew Ryniewicz stole the show with a haunting new take on her idol’s biggest hit, “Baby.”

If Justin’s original “Baby” is fluffy, flavorful bubblegum, Drew’s “Baby” is a three-course meal of teenage angst, yearning and obsession. The words “I thought you’d always be mine” are a lot heavier when the arrangement features minor chords on a mournful piano. The cleverest bit is Drew’s take on the chorus, where she flips the melody to include a devastating half-yodel, her voice cracking with each “Baby.”

In other words, the star of Bieber’s “Baby” is singing to a girl at recess. The protagonist in Drew’s version is in her room, anguished and maybe Facebook-stalking her ex. This is dark. And awesome.

All four “X Factor” judges – including LA Ried who signed Bieber to Island/Def Jam – were blown away. L.A. called it “soulful” and “believable.” Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell went further, saying they preferred Drew’s dark spin to Bieber’s recording. “This is exactly what I wanted a 14-year-old to do in this competition,” Cowell gushed. “Most importantly, people your age would buy your version of that song.”

(A-hem, Simon. People twice her age would buy it, too. Race that girl to a studio and release it on iTunes ASAP!)

So now that the professional industry execs have given it two (or eight?) thumbs up, we want to know which version you prefer: Bieber’s upbeat original or Drew’s heartbreaking lament? Vote, after the jump! Read More...

Happy Endings

As a hard-hitting entertainment journalist, I make it my business to check out as many television shows, movies and new albums as I can. Because of this, I'm a discerning viewer and it takes a lot for a show to stick. The only shows I'd say I'm a regular viewer of are "Glee" (which is currently enjoining a reprieve after a dramatic season-to-season improvement), NBC's weirdo gems "Parks and Recreation" and "30 Rock," "Louie" (which wrapped up its amazing second season a few weeks back) and Emmy-winner "Modern Family." Late last season, I also decided to get back into "The Office," an old favorite that I'd given up, and am glad I did. Did you see the season premiere last week? It felt like a return to form.

(Note: I know I also should also be watching "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men," but I have a harder time getting into dramas, especially particularly heavy ones like "Bad." I like my drama on the uplifting side, like sadly departed "Friday Night Lights." Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!)

One show that popped on my radar last season was "Happy Endings." I enjoyed the show, but it was never must-see TV for me. I watched it when I caught it, but it never got a place on the DVR. Then this summer I caught up a bit online and found that beneath the occasionally manic dialogue and slightly overdone premise (six wacky friends living it up in the big city!) was a truly funny little show that deserves a fighting chance. We’re only three weeks into “Survivor: South Pacific” and already Brandon Hantz is in the running for most unhinged contestant of all time. Details on that, some hidden immunity idol shenanigans, the first Redemption Island duel of the season and more await you past the jump!
