It’s almost that special time of year again, when girls from all around get the opportunity to eroticize a vast array of professions and every pet owner gets a chance to make their dog hate them just a little bit. My top costume predictions are Ryan Gosling’s “Drive” outfit with the badass cream-colored satin jacket, the inappropriate costume of the year will likely be a bloody Muammar Gaddafi, while the Steve Jobs get-up – black turtleneck and some blue jeans – will become the go-to outfit for all nerds (and people wanting a cheap costume) to pay tribute to the fallen visionary.

Everyone loves dressing up and attempting to be as witty as possible with their outfit. Halloween is actually a great backdrop for a music video too with its vivid imagery and slew of monsters to choose from. It’s no wonder these videos went the creepy route with their ideas, because few holidays are as fun and ridiculously memorable as Halloween. Here are five of the freakiest vids we could find.

Michael Jackson, “Thriller”

The one that truly started it all. After the King of Pop saw “American Werewolf in London,” he rang up the film’s director, John Landis, to helm his epic 14-minute music video for “Thriller,” which also boasted narration from horror legend Vincent Price. MJ’s iconic red leather jacket from the clip sold at auction earlier this year for a jaw-dropping $1.8 million. Luckily, the winner was a Texas millionaire who plans on sending the jacket on charitable tour, which makes me feel better knowing Kanye isn’t wearing it while moonwalking through his living room.

Get the rest, after the jump.

Marilyn Manson, “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”

We all look at Manson’s take on the Eurythmic’s “Sweet Dreams” now as one of the quintessential covers and simply describing its accompanying video does not do it justice. Manson donning a wedding outfit, wandering the street in a tutu or riding a muddy pig may sound just plain weird rather than scary, but like the song itself, the sh*t is actually quite creepy (double-dog dare you to listen to it alone in the dark). The track gave Manson his first MTV Video Music Award nomination for Best Rock Video.

Backstreet Boys, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”

Moving past the fact that this was from their US debut album and the title for some reason includes “Backsteet’s Back” (from where, you know; they just got here), Backstreet Boys took the pop world by storm in the late ’90s and I recall getting my groove on to this song at seventh grade school dances. The music video is a clear homage to MJ’s “Thriller” with the gentleman sporting various creatures: Howie as Dracula, Nick as a Mummy and Kevin as Dr. Jekyll, to name a few. Their label wasn’t jiving with the horror aesthetic, so the guys had to use their own cash to finance the vid, which proved to be a worthwhile investment.

Christina Aguilera, “Fighter”

Christina must’ve seen director Floria Sigismondi’s video for Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People” and asked for a similar treatment, because the creepy-as-hell visuals in Aguilera’s “Fighter” video aren’t that much different. The vid was one of our first glimpses of the singer donning jet black hair, which went well with the black kimono and overall gothic vibe of the clip. It’s also the last time I’ve seen a pop star go through a creepy metamorphosis in their music video, but the song got plenty of love and retired on the old “TRL” countdown back in the day.

TV on the Radio, “Wolf Like Me”

Inarguably TV on the Radio’s catchiest song, the music video for “Wolf Like Me” channels old silent horror films of the past with subtitles at the bottom and everything. It’s a fun song and vid with the “hero” awakening and going to pick up a lady at the club, but things quickly go awry when one turns out to be a werewolf. It still has a happy ending, however, with our hero turning into a werewolf after being bit and becoming his beastly lady’s hairy boo.
