Britney Spears and video director Chris Marrs Piliero certainly have some kind of magic together. They've made memorable clips for "I Wanna Go" and now "Criminal," but are the two cooking up something else?

When we caught up with Chris this week, he teased that Spears will likely appear in his first feature film, which he is currently in the process of penning. Asked if he'd work with Spears again, Piliero said, "I mean, definitely," before adding, "Well, besides any future videos, I'm writing a screenplay and I'm definitely saving a role for her, for sure."

Piliero takes MTV News behind the scenes of the "Criminal" video:

Wait a second! Does that mean fans will finally get to see Spears on the big screen for the first time since her lead role in "Crossroads" (which, by the way, Piliero made a little joke about in the "I Wanna Go" video)? "She will be in my first film. I can't really go into detail about what it's about," he said. "I would say it's gonna be crime drama-ish, but with my quirk [and] my approach. But definitely there'll be a role for her, for sure."

However, the size of Brit's role appears to be up in the air. "That I don’t know yet cause I'm still in the writing process," he explained. "So I'm not totally sure, but 100 percent she has to be in it and I know she's already expressed interest. So we'll make that happen." Read More...

First time mom-to-be Hilary Duff is hard at work getting ready for her new baby and also hard at work on her career. The former Disney star, who just announced that she is having a baby boy, recently released her novel "Devoted," the second in her trilogy series "Elixir." Yet, being an author isn’t the only thing Duff is doing to keep herself busy before the baby, she recently told us that she really wants to get back into music.

"Before I got pregnant I was really starting to work on a new record," Hilary said. "I hadn’t gotten into the studio yet, but was meeting with lots of people and kind of just figuring out where I fit now and what direction I want to go in. I still want to do that."

Hilary, whose last album "Dignity" was released in 2007, doesn’t have a plan to release the album anytime soon, she has one thing in mind: spend some quality time with her new baby. But watch out, Baby Duff, you might have to pack your bags for a little road trip!

"I think there’s no reason why I can’t be in the studio working on that while I’m knocked up," Hilary joked. "But I would obviously wait. I want to have a few months with my baby, and then I think maybe touring with a baby could be easy." Read More...

Florence

By Zachary Swickey

Florence Welch, the fiery frontwoman of Florence + the Machine, has admitted to adopting sober living while on tour. The group was an opening act on U2’s record-shattering roadshow this summer, and the demanding schedule required a lot from the singer, which led her to choose sobriety on the road.

Welch explained to UK’s The Sun, saying, “I have stopped drinking on tour. I feel a bit more responsibility for my body and for fans who come to see us. When we toured with U2 it was such a grueling schedule and I had shows every day and I can’t do that with a hangover.”

We’ve seen firsthand how delicate a voice can be with Adele axing two U.S. tours this year due to her crazy schedule, and Welch doesn’t seem keen on running into the same problem as she elaborated, stating, “This is the best job in the world and I don’t want to spoil it. Stopping drinking has made a huge difference in my vocal range too.”

The singer even got a pep talk about performing in high heels from Bono himself: “Bono was great. He gave me advice on how to perform even when I’m wearing huge high-heeled shoes. He told me how to keep my feet on the spot and use my arms.” (Sidenote: Bono is actually known to wear shoes with heels several inches thick due to his short stature, but he’s kind of sensitive about it so don’t tease him).

Check out our recent interview with Welch after the jump for more details about life on the road with the Machine, as well as her culinary skills (or lack thereof). Read More...

‘Tis the season to be jolly, especially if you’re a Justin Bieber fan, as the teen superstar is set to release his first holiday album, Under the Mistletoe, come November 1.

(The first single, "Mistletoe," dropped earlier this week during MTV First: Justin Bieber.)

For this release, Bieber has roped in a whole host of guest artists. Some guest appearances are to be expected – mentor and close friend Usher, of course, duets with Bieber on his version of "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts)." Some, though, seem to have come out of left field. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one to do a double take when I found out that Bieber would be collaborating with Mariah Carey on a new version of her smash “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Not only is the music Carey makes very different from Bieber's, her fanbase is an entirely different demographic.

But, then again, this new Justin/Mariah power combo is hardly the first unusual music collaboration. Artists working together and crossing genres often produce fresh, innovative music. In anticipation of hearing the new duet version of “All I Want for Christmas is You,” I thought I’d take a look back at some of music’s most unusual and unexpected collaborations.

When Britney Spears debuted her sexy new video for "Criminal," we were as surprised as everyone else at the amount of flesh flashed in the clip by … her boyfriend, Jason Trawick. We've seen Brit's banging bod before – the Joseph Kahn-directed video for "Womanizer" opens with the superstar fully nude, arms strategically draped across her chest, on a bench in a steam room, for crying out loud – but this is our first real look at what her man's rocking under those fancy suits he wears to escort her to awards shows.

So what's Mr. Trawick got going on? Turns out, he's just as fit as his lady love. "He’s a mesomorph body type, so his body type is one that gains muscle easily," Hollywood trainer Jeanette Jenkins tells MTV News of Trawick's transformation from the typical guy next door to muscle-bound hunk (as illustrated above).

"Even in that before picture he doesn’t have a lot of body fat. He’s got a little bit of a belly. But he still, his density. I can see the density of his muscle," says Jenkins, who has helped sculpt the fit bods of Serena Williams, Robin Thicke, "Up All Night" star Christina Applegate, Kendra Wilkinson and Terrell Owens. "He was a classic out-of-shape mesomorph. Him and Britney Spears have the same body type. With mesomorph, when they get out of shape, when you gain just like five or ten pounds of body fat, you look so much more overweight because it’s the fat over the muscle. … But they have the muscle and muscles is what burns fat. So it’s like, once they start training, their body transforms very quickly."

For his part, "Criminal" video director Chris Marrs Piliero, who wasn't into the idea of Trawick co-starring with Spears in the video at first, was as surprised as everyone else at how sculpted the talent agent (who represented Spears until they decided to part ways professionally in May 2010) was when he showed up on set. Read on to hear what he had to say and for Jenkins' how-to guide to a Trawick-style transformation (she thinks you can do it in six months if you work hard!). Read More...

Bob Dylan

By Zachary Swickey

Even at 70 years old, Bob Dylan is still a big deal and one of the most revered singer-songwriters ever –and now some big name musicians, including Adele, Ke$ha, My Morning Jacket and Sting, are preparing to pay their respects on a new tribute album for charity.

Titled Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International, the disc is expected to land on November 21 stateside with proceeds benefiting the human rights group.

Ke$ha will be handling the ’63 tune “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right,” and you may be surprised to discover her enthusiasm for the project. While the collab is sure to have some detractors, Ke$ha defended her love for the icon to Rolling Stone, saying, “When you think of me, you wouldn’t think of Bob Dylan. My music is more crazy than politics. But he’s a huge influence – he writes his own music and means what he says. I write my own music and I f***cking mean every word I sing.”

Adele will include her beautiful rendition of “Make You Feel My Love,” which can already be heard on her smash-hit debut, 19, while My Morning Jacket will supply a superstar jam fest with the help of Sting and Dave Matthews Band for a cover of “You’re a Big Girl Now” off of Dylan’s 1975 album, Blood on the Tracks. It's easy to compare Lady Gaga and Britney Spears to Madonna and have the two of them vie for her throne. But could it be that there's another pop star secretly working her way to Queen of Pop status and doing it more in the spirit of Madge herself? Well, there's an argument to be made that Rihanna is certainly following in the footsteps of the Mama of Pop.

"I think that Madonna was a great inspiration for me, especially on my earlier work. If I had to examine her evolution through time, I think she reinvented her clothing style and music with success every single time," Rihanna said earlier this year. "And at the same time remained a real force in entertainment in the whole world."

While some of you may be scratching your head at the suggestion that Ri – and not Gaga or Brit – might be the new Madge, we've come up with some reasons why. Follow us here for a second, okay?

More and more, I'm coming around on Coach and Ozzy being in this game. Starting out, I was bugged by their lack of history, their unevenness, the complete dearth of any connective tissue between the two other than, "Hey, these guys played the game a couple of times, they were pretty popular, and it worked for us last season, so why not bring 'em back?" Now, I'm starting to get on board, precisely because these two are such imperfect players.

Jay Sean

With reporting by Akshay Bhansali

Hot on the heels of a tour with newly solo Joe Jonas and his new mixtape – and with his second U.S. album, Freeze Time, due later this fall – Jay Sean is having a very big year. But being ultra busy didn't stop the British R&B singer/songwriter from having a little fun when he stopped by the MTV Newsroom recently.

We decided to play Two Truths & A Lie with Sean, and he was by far the most game star yet to enter into our little campfire "getting to know you" exercise.

Did he meet Sean Paul on the red carpet at a VMA event and it led to their collaboration on "Do You Remember"? Is Jay Sean his real name? And before he was a pop star did he really used to dissect bodies?

Two of these things are fact, one is fiction. Can you guess which one it is? Check out the video after the jump to find out. Read More...
