It’s no secret that Kim Kardashian’s idol is legendary Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor. If you watched the four hour, two night E! Special “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event,” Kim and her sisters mention numerous times her love for the star.
In February, Kim had the honor of interviewing Elizabeth Taylor for Harper’s Bazaar magazine and kicked off the interview saying, “You are my idol. But I'm six husbands and some big jewels behind. What should I do?” To which Taylor responded, “Follow your passion, follow your heart, and the things you need will come.”
Seems like something Kim didn’t need was her second husband, Kris Humphries. Kim filed for divorce on Monday, just 72 days after saying “I Do.” So does this mean that Kim is one step closer to being her idol, Elizabeth Taylor? Let’s compare.
Kim vs. Elizabeth: The Marriages
Elizabeth Taylor was known for her movies, glamorous lifestyle and, of course, her marriages. Elizabeth was married eight times, to seven different men (she married actor Richard Burton twice). Both Kim and Elizabeth were teenagers when they first walked down the aisle – Elizabeth wed Conrad Hilton at 18, and Kim wed producer Daman Thomas at 19. Yet, it seems Kim has one-upped Elizabeth when it comes to the shortest marriage; her marriage to Kris Humphries lasted only 72 days, while Elizabeth’s first marriage lasted nine months.
Kim vs. Elizabeth: The Jewelry
In that same issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Kim asked Elizabeth, “You have the world's most iconic jewelry collection. Of your three most famous diamond rings— a 29.4-carat from Mike Todd, the Krupp diamond at 33.19 carats, or the Taylor-Burton 69.42-carat diamond—which one meant the most? Does size matter?” Taylor responded, “Size does matter, but so does the size of the emotion behind it.” Guess there wasn’t enough emotion behind Kim’s 20.5 carat, $2 million sparkler that Kris slipped on her finger—no word yet on if she’s keeping the rock!
Elizabeth Taylor designed fine jewelry for the Elizabeth Collection and Kim recently launched her own jewelry line, Bella Noel, at Bloomingdales. Yet, it seems like Kim has a long way to go if she wants to match Elizabeth’s famous private jewelry collection – estimated to be worth $150 million! But Kim is in luck, on December 13, Taylor’s jewelry will be auctioned off at Christie’s. Mark your calendar, Kim!
Kim vs. Elizabeth: Perfume
Elizabeth Taylor created a perfume empire with her three scents, “White Diamonds,” “Passion” and “Passion for Men.” Kim isn’t too far behind in this category, having two perfumes out right now – "Kim Kardashian” and “Gold.” She also recently released a limited edition perfume, “Love,” to coincide with her wedding.
Kim vs. Elizabeth: Acting
Elizabeth Taylor was a legendary film actress, winning two Academy Awards for her roles in “BUtterfield 8” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolfe?” Kim has a long way to go if she wants to compete with Elizabeth in the acting department, but she is filming her first role in Tyler Perry’s next film, “The Marriage Counselor.”
