While Katy Perry continues to deny pregnancy rumors (a terse “Hell, no!” was her actual response), the pop starlet has managed to secure another feat on the Billboard music charts with her sixth top ten single from Teenage Dream.
Perry’s sixth official offering from Dream, “The One That Got Away” jumps from the No. 15 spot of the Billboard Hot 100 to number 10, which makes it only the seventh album in the chart’s 53-year history to garner six top 10 singles, according to Billboard. No one has accomplished this since Janet Jackson’s Janet managed to do so way back from '93-94.
Teenage Dream has managed to stay on the Billboard charts since its first week of release and is chugging along in its 65th week of release with 1.9 million copies sold. The top ten appearance of “The One That Got Away” follows Perry’s five previous singles, which all reached number one status: “California Gurls (ft. Snoop Dogg),” the album’s title track, “Firework,” “E.T. (ft. Kanye West)” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).”
Perry will truly break new ground if her sixth single manages to hit number one – it would surpass Michael Jackson’s Bad to become the first album of all time to have six Billboard Hot 100 number one singles. Hate to brag, but we saw this coming months ago. Perry can still aspire to Whitney Houston’s record of seven numero uno singles in a row (which the vintage diva did over the course of two albums), even if it takes her third album to do so.
This is all pretty astonishing when you consider the fact that Perry’s debut album, One of the Boys, came out just three short years ago in June of 2008. Since she claims that she won’t be taking maternity leave anytime soon, we expect many more musical feats to come.
