Santigold

Thankfully, it seems like a new release from funk/pop/rap sensation Santigold is finally inching closer with the singer officially naming her new album: Master of My Make-Believe.

Santi chatted with V Magazine, revealing some new details about her upcoming sophomore record, saying, “My record is called Master of My Make-Believe because I want it to be about creating your own reality. I have a song called ‘The Keepers’: ‘We’re keepers, while we sleep in America our house is burning down.’ It’s about how if we accept this then that’s what it is. We’ve got to fix it.”

Explaining her reason for making music and what she hopes to accomplish, Santi stated, “I connect with music that makes me feel alive, or a sense of possibility. Music is powerful. If I go out and I’m watching a show and it’s really good, all I want to do is go home and work on music. It’s a backhanded motivation when something is really good. I want my music to be that for other people.”

Santigold also commented on her many collaborators in the studio. Mentioning the album will feature production work from a bevy of studio stars: Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Foster the People), DJ Switch (M.I.A., Beyonce), The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner, and TV on the Radio guitarist Dave Sitek, who produced Scarlett Johansson’s attempt at music.

We’ve been clamoring for a new Santigold release for a while now. Nearly a year ago, in April 2011, a new Santigold song, “Go (ft. Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs),” was released on Jay-Z’s lifestyle blog. The post was titled “American Dreaming,” which led many to believe that it was the moniker to her new album. No word on if the track will appear on her follow-up.

While the effort finally seems imminent, that’s what we thought a few months ago when Santi was tweeting about shooting a music video and working on the cover photo shoot (yet, we still haven’t had an official single). Hopefully her label listens to our cries and won’t leave her fans in the dark much longer. We’re sure to catch some new tracks at her Coachella appearance this year.
